Description
We are approaching summertime on the West Coast, and there's lots to do on our nine-acre regenerative homesteading community! Planting, mulching, fixing irrigation, fence repair, mowing, weeding and much more. The Cherries and Blueberries are just around the corner!
About our farm…
We are a small community of people (currently nine adults and two teens) living on a beautiful 9-acre farm property on Salt Spring Island, BC. We are growing an abundance of fruit, vegetables and nuts. We are committed to sustainability, and we take great pride in stewarding the land.
Your main hosts will be Sally, coordinator of the Workaway program, our Garden Manager, Joy, and Freyja, the owner of the farm. Our other community members are actively involved during your stay with us also.
This hobby farm has extensive apple orchards, and we have been working on establishing a permaculture food forest system by planting a wide variety of fruit and nut trees, bushes, shrubs, berries, herbs and vegetable gardens, all interspersed.
We have an abundance of berries and vegetables that we harvest in the summer and apples in late fall. Some of the first trees we planted are now coming to fruition, yet it is a lifelong project!
Note that we have indicated our ideal stay as at least one week. A week to ten days is just fine when we have many Spring projects and during Fall harvest periods. However, generally we find that a two-week minimum is ideal for the flow of farm activities with our volunteers, so they can take a deep dive into all the things they'll learn and contribute towards our land and community.
Your stay with us will truly be a unique Salt Spring experience! If you are interested in volunteering at the farm for 2026, please send us a message telling us about yourself, your skills and interests. Ask us anything you like! We love that volunteer Workaways have a big role in helping our farm to thrive! -

In the summer we will be busy with the cherry and blueberry season and the garden, which provides us an abundance of veggies!
There is a lot of planting, harvesting and processing that happens on the farm eight months of the year. We are also busy weeding, building/ improving infrastructure, eating lots of greens and continuing to work on our hydroponic greenhouse.
We welcome help with building projects, whether you have experience or are eager to learn!
The work trade is 25 hours per week (Monday to Friday) and includes healthy food staples and access to farm grown produce.
Most of the work is quite physical, so please come ready to put those muscles to use!
Please note: we are unable to accommodate dogs at this time. -

There are hiking and running trails close to the farm and we are biking distance from the ocean. In the summer, it is fun to swim in our pond, the ocean or in nearby St. Mary’s Lake.
Salt Spring Island is a vibrant community with cafés, events, dances, potlucks, ceremonies, markets, forests and beaches to enjoy!
It’s a magical island, just waiting to be explored by curious travellers and nature lovers. -
