After she was done she checked to see if it was satisfactory to me. Claire was respectful and had good boundaries, both for the family and herself. She kept her space clean and tidy. Being
… read more independent and bright, I needed to only give instructions on a task and then Claire completed it without supervision. When the agreed time period was up, Claire went to visit family in Quebec. I knew Claire would be again available in one week and I would be at the beach house for three weeks. I asked Claire if she would come back, grocery shop and cook for others in the house, and generally look after the house. She accepted the challenge and I was delighted. I had total confidence in Claire and could relax at the beach house. When I was gone, a friend suggested that I would really like my car cleaned inside. Imagine my delight when I came home to a clean car! This young woman's attitude is fabulous. She can come and help me again anytime she wishes to come back to Toronto.

Wow! Cris is an amazing, dependable, competent workawayer. Plus, she is caring to boot. The first day I told Cris what I needed done and she took it from there. In her feedback, Cris said that she made dinners, which is true BUT she did so much more........taking the garbage bins to the curb, feeding Cocoa Puff, playing with Cocoa Puff, making her a toy, making her a new kitty litter bin. As a bonus, Cris is very wise and a lovely person to talk with. In short, you are very lucky if Cris contacts you to work as a workawayer!

Linda's home became my home in Toronto for 46 days. I can't call it volunteering because I felt like part of the family. Linda is an incredible woman, strong and very generous. I had the pleasure of living with Julian, her son, and Cocoa Puff, the smartest kitten with the most personality I've ever met.

… read more are easy and Linda likes to be proactive. They were very natural and my main activity was to cook dinner some days of the week, we also cooked together which was really nice. On the first day, I tidied up the kitchen pantry, which made it easier for me to know and create delicious dishes with what I had in the pantry. At dinner time we dropped our smartphones and talked a lot in English, which was very good for me.
I was able to enjoy the routine of a real Canadian, we had a lot of fun watching the Raptors vs Miami Beat basketball game. Create a new box for Cocoa and for the first time I saw snow. Linda is a kind-hearted hostess and a very generous person so I ask that anyone who chooses to spend time with this very special family, be kind and respectful.
I will miss you and hope to return soon.

Antonio stayed at my home for one month. He is an excellent workawayer and a lovely young man. You will not find a better worker than Antonio. He painted my living room, dining room and kitchen with great care. As well, Antonio performed gardening tasks in the front and back yard. All work that Antonio did exceeded my expectations. … read more talked about travelling and culture in Mexico and he was happy to practice his English, which is quite good now. It was easy to share my home with Antonio. He is very polite and cleaned up after himself in the kitchen.

Life with Maria and Javier is better! I truly think that this wonderful couple wanted to make my life easier. Without my asking, I would turn around and notice that the cat litter box was cleaned or the mudroom floor mopped. Javier and Maria did plenty of painting jobs around the house, cooked amazing dinners, took out the garbage, organized the
… read more garage, cleaned the firepit, raked the leaves, shovelled snow, weeded the garden and more. Both are excellent organizers. I told them what I needed done and then I went about my busy life. At no time did I need to supervise them or worry that they would not work hard. On the contrary, I think they gave me extra time. We were flexible about doing more work some days so that they could sight see extra time. Whatever job they will do as a workawayer, I am certain that they will do their best. Both are highly competent.
On a personal note, they are wonderful to have around as they are a happy couple who demonstrate respect and love for each other. Also, they have good boundaries so it is easy to live with them. At all times they were open and honest with me. When I had get togethers, they helped me to prepare and then joined in with the festivities. My sons and friends all enjoyed talking with Maria and Javier. Javier has such a quick wit and positive personality, he kept me laughing!
Taking together their terrific work ethic and amiable personalities, I have zero reservations recommending this couple to any work environment. You would be very happy if Maria and Javier joined you as workawayers!

Linda's house was going to be our first 1 month-stop in Canada, but it became our home and we decided to stay 4 months.
This first sentence is the most descriptive one that we have been able to choose, because what Linda, Julian and Cocoa Puff need is someone who is part of their family and truly lives with them. We do not want their experience
… read more with Workaway to be affected by travelers who only need cheap accommodation/vacations in Toronto. Linda needs someone with good spirit, dynamic, fun, honest and who collaborates at home as you collaborate when you go to your parents' house. And if you can continue teaching her some Spanish, much better!
Although you have a lot of free time thanks to Linda's flexibility, she needs flexibility in return. This is easily doable by keeping an OPEN communication with her. She is always up to listen, giving useful advice and help. Don’t worry, we just want to make sure that those who have the good fortune to stay with her in the future, are willing to give the same back to her.
Julian is a really good boy. He will help you if you ask him for help, specially with technology, and he loves great food. He will be willing to taste your recipes, but he has a really good taste, the level is quite high! ;)
Then Cocoa Puff is… well… Special! Hahaha she will love you after a few weeks after seeing if you are good enough to Linda. For some reason, she loves being pet while she eats.
If the three of them have problems in the future with any of you, you will have to deal with us! Hahaha.
Joking apart, we can assure you that Linda provides very good meals in a family environment together with her students. The room was big and comfortable, with lots of space and a beautiful garden. In return, we tried to make Linda's life easier. Every day she might need something different, and for that reason I appeal to flexibility, but I remember that she is also flexible back. In order to make Linda's life easier, we painted, cleaned, helped make do the groceries, gardened and made suggestions for improving the house. If we saw that a door needed fixing, we did it. If we saw that Linda was busy, we offered to make dinner. If she needed anything from the hardware store, we went instead. When the date of a family party approached, we helped her prepare it.
During these months we had enough time to explore the city of Toronto and what it has to offer. The subway and the bus are very close, and a main street of Toronto is a 15 minute walk where there are shops, restaurants and a lot of different cafes to discover.
As you see, Linda’s house it’s a really good option for starting a new life in Canada, but beware: the farewell after this experience will be heartbraking! ;)

Mary is exactly what I wanted in a workawayer and more! She performs tasks meticulously. Mary stayed for two and one half weeks. The house is located in a very beautiful area of Toronto next to a beautiful park, which is a nice place to walk or ride a bike. The work in the house was very pleasant and flexible. Whenever I needed support Linda was extremely willing to help.

Lucas is an intelligent and capable young man. Myself and my house are better because of his stay at my home in Toronto, Canada. Lucas stayed for only two lovely weeks and got so much done. … read more of rocks I had in the backyard. Lucas' initiative was most appreciated - he emptied the recycling bin often and took out garbage bins and leaf bags on garbage day. I did not ask Lucas to do those two things. When I was going out for dinner one evening, Lucas said, "No problem", that he could make dinner for people at home. (By the way, my son liked his dinner better) He was always looking to do things that would make my life easier, such as fixing a closet door and bathroom hooks.
