Description
Hello and welcome! My name is Elizabeth, a passionate educator and the founder and director of our early childhood center located in Dodoma, Tanzania. I am dedicated to nurturing young minds and creating a safe, loving, and stimulating environment where children can thrive during their foundational years. As a host, I am excited to open our doors to international volunteers, share our local Tanzanian culture, and learn from the diverse experiences each volunteer brings to our community.
About Our Project:
Established to support local families and children, our daycare and early childhood center provides essential foundation-level education, language acquisition, and social development. Our daily program focuses on early literacy (phonics, reading skills), basic numeracy, creative arts, and play-based learning.
We are continuously striving to enhance our educational experience and facilities to better serve our pupils. Volunteers play a wonderful role in enriching our day-to-day routine by assisting teachers, bringing fresh and creative teaching methods, leading outdoor games or music activities, and engaging children in conversational English. You will be working alongside our wonderful local team of teachers and support staff who handle the core operations of the center.
What to See and Do Locally:
Our center is located in Dodoma, the vibrant capital city of Tanzania. Known for its friendly people, warm climate, and relaxed pace of life, Dodoma offers a truly authentic Tanzanian cultural experience. During your free time and weekends, you can:
Explore Local Life & Culture: Visit colorful local markets, sample delicious traditional food, and experience community events or local choir performances.
Hike & Nature: Hike up the iconic Jamhuri or Lion Rock hills for stunning sunset views across the city.
Historical & Cultural Sites: Take day trips to nearby historic attractions, such as the ancient Kondoa Irangi Rock-Art sites.
Travel Beyond: Dodoma has great transport connections to other regions in Tanzania, making it easy to arrange weekend trips for wildlife safaris or visits to other national parks. We look forward to welcoming you to our family and sharing an unforgettable educational and cultural exchange! We expect volunteers to help for 4 to 5 hours a day, Monday to Friday. Main tasks include assisting teachers in class, playing and engaging with children in conversational English, leading outdoor games, arts, and helping organize fun educational activities. We will provide traditional homemade Tanzanian meals on working days. We will cook together and share our daily meals. If you have any special dietary requirements, please let us know in advance. Local transport around Dodoma is very easy using dala-dalas, bajajis, or bodabodas. Once your arrival details are confirmed, we will give you clear instructions on how to get to our center or arrange to meet you : If you'd like and have space in your luggage, we warmly welcome volunteers to bring small educational supplies, flashcards, or children's games (such as colored pencils, crayons, or simple puzzles) that can help enrich our children's learning experience!…….. If you would like to support us further and have the means, we warmly welcome any donations of learning technology, such as laptops, tablets, or other useful electronic gadgets to help with our school administration and educational programs. Additionally, small supplies like picture books, educational games/puzzles, and art or coloring materials are always deeply appreciated -

Language exchange is a wonderful part of our daily routine! You can help our children and local teachers practice basic English fun conversations, songs, and games. In return, we would love to teach you Swahili, starting with everyday greetings, useful phrases, and words you can use around town and with the kids. It’s a fun, relaxed, and natural way for everyone to learn from each other. -

Weather & Clothing: Dodoma can be quite warm and sunny during the day, so we recommend packing light clothing, a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen, along with a light jacket for cooler evenings. Visa & Travel: Volunteers are responsible for their own flight tickets and appropriate visa arrangements (such as a Volunteer Visa). We are more than happy to provide an official invitation letter and support documents to help with your visa application. What to Bring: Just bring an open mind, a big smile, and maybe a few small games, picture books, or ideas from your home country to share with our children. We look forward to hosting you and creating wonderful memories together!
