  • Description

    Description

We are looking for a person or a couple to join us for a few weeks and help with the upkeep and care of our beloved French manor house, built in 1820, located in the beautiful countryside of Tarn-et-Garonne, southwest France.
We fell in love with this gorgeous building and bought it in December 2016 after it had been standing empty and neglected for twenty years. It is our personal home and a true passion project. Inside, all the walls are made from bricks of mud, and we are slowly bringing it back to life, surrounded by orchards and wonderfully kind neighbours who regularly bring us eggs, vegetables and fruits from their garden.
As the season approaches, we are preparing the house and garden. The help mainly involves garden maintenance, outdoor cleaning (tidying, clearing, small tasks) and a bit of painting. Most of the work is outdoors. Please note that no help with paying guests or maintenance of spaces used by paying guests is ever requested from our volunteers.
In exchange, we offer a private room and shared meals. We work together approximately 5 hours a day, with weekends free to explore the region, its villages, markets and beautiful landscapes.
I am Sophie (59) and Daniel (70) is my partner. I am a flight attendant and interior architecture designer, and Daniel is a happily retired man with a great passion for traditional craftsmanship — he loves sharing his knowledge and you will genuinely learn new skills during your stay. He doesn't speak English, so basic French or Spanish is necessary. We have 1 dog and 3 cats.
We have been welcoming Workawayers since 2018 and have always received a 5/5 rating — something we are very proud of and which reflects the warm and genuine experience we offer.
If you are dynamic, reliable, enjoy getting your hands dirty and want to be part of something special, we would love to hear from you. Please introduce yourself and let us know your availability.
We are primarily looking for French speakers or people fluent in French or Spanish.

    Echange culturel et opportunités d'apprendre

We are French natives, open-minded and well-travelled, with a genuine love for cultural exchange and meeting people from all walks of life.
Living with us is a real opportunity to immerse yourself in French culture and daily life. We cook every day with fresh and local produce, and sharing meals together is an important part of the experience. You will discover the gastronomy, traditions and way of life of the southwest of France, a region rich in history, beautiful villages and weekly markets.
Daniel is passionate about traditional craftsmanship and restoration and will be happy to share his knowledge and experience with anyone who is curious and eager to learn. Sophie has trained in interior architecture and decoration and loves sharing her passion for design and creativity. If you enjoy learning new skills in an authentic and warm environment, you have come to the right place!
We are also happy to help you improve your French if you wish, and to share our knowledge of the local area — its hidden gems, best markets, restaurants and landscapes.
    Smokers are welcome.
Sharing moments, stories and laughter is what makes this experience truly memorable for both sides. We know how to make people feel at home, and we love learning about other cultures just as much as sharing our own.

We are looking for energetic and motivated people to help us with the following tasks:
    Garden & outdoors:
Gardening, mowing, weeding, pruning, tidying and general outdoor cleaning and clearing.
    Around the house:
Painting, light tidying and general day-to-day maintenance of our personal home.
Please note: No help with any paying guests or maintenance of spaces used by paying guests is ever requested from our volunteers. Our volunteers work exclusively within our own personal living space.
Most of the structural work has been completed — the roof, windows and main doors are all fitted. What remains is light finishing work, offering a great opportunity to learn and share skills in an authentic French setting.
Children are not allowed due to the nature of the work.
We would like approximately 25 hours of help per week, Monday to Friday, typically starting at 8:00 am. Your afternoons and weekends are entirely yours.

You will have your own comfortable private room for the duration of your stay. Bathrooms have been fully renovated.
You will be offered three meals a day: a typical light French breakfast between 7:00 am and 7:30 am, a hot or cold lunch between 1:00 pm and 2:00 pm, and a main evening meal with wine or beer between 8:00 pm and 9:00 pm. Daniel and I cook every day with fresh and local produce, and we truly value the time spent sharing meals together.
You are also very welcome to join us in our activities and daily life.
We have some land, so you are sure to find a private spot to relax, read, enjoy a glass of wine or simply work on your tan. You are also welcome to use the swimming pool.
If you are without transport, we are happy to drive you to the nearest village, which is 5 km from the house, where you will find bars, restaurants and all the shops you could possibly need. There are also bicycles available for you to borrow.

The house is located 5km from Lafrançaise, the nearest village, in the heart of the beautiful Tarn-et-Garonne countryside.
There are many stunning villages and medieval towns to visit nearby in your free time. We will be happy to take you to discover Montauban, Moissac, Cahors and the surrounding area, where you can explore how the French used to live and soak up centuries of history and architecture.
Here it is life in the countryside at its finest — a place where neighbours take the time to talk to each other, where the pace of life is gentle and the landscapes are breathtaking. You will get to taste traditional and seasonal French food, enjoy local wines, and discover the beauty of the Garonne valley.
In France everybody loves going to the market, so once a week (weather permitting) we visit a local farmers market, where you will learn about fresh produce and how to cook with it.
    Getting here:
If you wish to arrive by flight, Toulouse or Agen are the closest airports. There are several train stations nearby — Montauban, Castelsarrasin and Moissac being the best options. You can also use BlaBlaCar (car sharing) which is a very popular and affordable option in France.
There is a great café with internet access 5km from the house, and many beautiful villages to explore on your days off. Bicycles are available at the house for you to borrow.
