Description
Hey fellow Workawayers!
We are a South African/Canadian family of world travelers who recently bought a bungalow in a rural costal town in the Western Cape, SA.
We are now in the process of fixing it up before the vacation season ( December - January) and we would love to invite open minded and friendly people to come join us in this sea-side adventure. 🏄🏻♂️🐋
The Host:
My name is Ray, a long time workawayer myself, so I understand the ins and outs of volunteering. I am a very open minded, though not an overly social person🤣. I work online and am currently managing this project for the family. One of the rooms in the house is rented out, so there will be another occupant in the house as well.
The Project (*SEE NOTE BELOW):
If you want to learn how to be a "Jack of all trades" this is the workaway for you.
The main objective is to get the house ready for the holidays, so the days are spent on general repairs (painting, woodwork, gardening etc.). Nothing too technical, and everything you need to know we will figure out together.
*** Note: we work with a couple local NGO's that aid, tutor and feed children in need. If this interests you, mention it and we will be happy to arrange for you to help out in that manner as well.
The Location:
The bungalow is ideally located for ocean lovers: 8 minutes walk from a Blue Flag swimming beach and 6 minutes from the river/lagoon. We are also 15 minutes walk away from our local business district, there you'll find: 3 restaurants, a minimarket, a laundromat, art gallery, phone repair shop, liquor store and a few cute cafes. As for the town, we are about 350km to the north-east of Cape Town, around 30 mins off the N2. -

Echange culturel et opportunités d'apprendre
Workawayers will experience the costal South African lifestyle and see how we do things. We are Afrikaners, so you can learn about our: cooking, culture, language and history, if this interests you. We are of course happy to learn from you as well, if you can teach some Russian that would be a plus. Our costal village offers a rich archeological history, with ancient fish traps, shell mounds, a petrified forest, extinct animal footprint and historical hiking trails, all within walking distance from the cottage.
*due to the history of the town and nature of our regional municipality the local population is over 90% Caucasian, do not expect lions and huts. -

I have been trying to improve my Russian and German for years now, would be amazing if someone could help with that. I have 9 years of experience as an English teacher, so if you need to practice English, I'm your guy. -
Hébergement
We have a private room with a bunk bed, private closet and lockable door available for workawayers. The shared kitchen is modern and well equipped.
A simple traditional African breakfast will be provided by the hosts, while basic ingredients will be available for workaways to cook their own lunch and supper. Occasional dinners will be cooked communally, Workawayers can learn about traditional "boer" food and our amazing BBQ culture! -
Autres infos...
Pickup/dropoff is available from Riversdale, Western cape. This is our closest town on the national highway system (N2). Don't be afraid to ask if you have any concern about how to get here.
