    Description

    Hola amigxs!

I'm Flor, and together with my partner Victor - and the hands of volunteers from all over the world - we built our dream, on the coast of Oaxaca, Mexico. It took us three years, but now we're finally opening our doors.

It is a small creative community located just 100 meters from a wild, almost untouched beach.
𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐞 𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐬 𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐥𝐲 𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐝𝐨𝐨𝐫𝐬. There are no enclosed walls and our common areas are totally immersed in nature. The ocean view is everywhere (even from your dorm bed), you'll shower under the banana trees and the sound of the ocean is always in the background.

is not a typical hostel! It's a living, evolving, 𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐡𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐬𝐥𝐨𝐰 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐫𝐬, 𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐬, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐬. Here everyone shares community life together - volunteers, residents, guests, neighbors, and friends passing through.

    ----

    𝐈𝐌𝐀𝐆𝐈𝐍𝐄 𝐘𝐎𝐔𝐑 𝐃𝐀𝐘𝐒 𝐇𝐄𝐑𝐄
☀️ Slow mornings with the sunrise, ocean sounds, fruits and coffee waiting for you in the shared kitchen.
🌿 Morning meetings where we gather to check in with each other, talk about community life, ongoing projects, and hear what everyone is working on.
🎨 Daily activities planned, organized, and curated by all of us - art sessions, workshops, language exchanges, wellness practices, and more.
🌴 Afternoons belong to you - go explore the surroundings, dive into a personal project, pick up a book, or simply melt into a hammock and let the day pass.
🍕 Evenings together: family dinners where everyone cooks and shares, wood-fired pizza nights, movies under the stars, board games, and a dinner out at the local taqueria.

𝐎𝐮𝐫 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐬𝐦𝐚𝐥𝐥 : One dorm for 6, a palapa for 4, a private house for 2, and camping - only open in the dry season. Depending on the season, the group size varies between 5 and 15 people.
From June to October, the rainy season slows everything down and the group gets smaller - intimate and quiet, which has its own kind of magic. Every person counts. The atmosphere is shaped by whoever is here.

If you're looking for a real human experience - 𝐚 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐬𝐥𝐨𝐰 𝐝𝐨𝐰𝐧, 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞, 𝐠𝐞𝐭 𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐩𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐝, 𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐞, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐛𝐞 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐛𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐭 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞 - you might just feel at home here!

    ----

𝐖𝐇𝐎 𝐖𝐄 𝐀𝐑𝐄 𝐋𝐎𝐎𝐊𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐅𝐎𝐑 ?
We're searching for people who want to support the daily life — through general maintenance, helping organize activities, keeping things running smoothly, and making the place feel warm and welcoming for everyone who passes through.
Beyond the shared tasks, each volunteer also carries a personal mission during their stay - something that uses their specific skills and leaves a lasting mark on the place. 𝐖𝐞'𝐫𝐞 𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐥𝐲 𝐥𝐨𝐨𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬, 𝐩𝐡𝐨𝐭𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐩𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐬, 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐫𝐬, 𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐬, 𝐟𝐚𝐜𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐬, 𝐩𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐬.

→ This is the Volunteer path. All the details are in the 'Help'

    ----

𝐁𝐔𝐓 𝐓𝐇𝐀𝐓'𝐒 𝐍𝐎𝐓 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐎𝐍𝐋𝐘 𝐖𝐀𝐘 𝐓𝐎 𝐂𝐎𝐍𝐓𝐑𝐈𝐁𝐔𝐓𝐄

𝐈𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮'𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐧 𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐬𝐭, 𝐦𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐧, 𝐲𝐨𝐠𝐚 𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐫, 𝐟𝐚𝐜𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫, 𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐫, 𝐨𝐫 𝐰𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐩𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐫 - and you'd love to contribute your talent for a short period - we also welcome Creative residents.
Residents are not volunteers. They don't have work shifts or cleaning duties. They come with a practice, share it with the community, and leave something behind. In exchange, they stay at a reduced rate.

→ Curious? Read the 'Creative residency' section in 'Help'.

You'll share daily life with people from different countries, backgrounds, and realities: travelers, creatives, remote workers, Mexican guests on the road, neighbors dropping by, and locals occasionally joining activities or shared dinners. Exchanges happen naturally through conversations, cooking together, music, workshops, storytelling, and everyday life.

We also organize regular 𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐮𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐞𝐱𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐬 - a relaxed, informal space where everyone teaches and everyone learns. More details in the ‘Language’ section.

Agua Blanca is a small and 𝐚𝐮𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐯𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐎𝐚𝐱𝐚𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐜𝐨𝐚𝐬𝐭, located between Puerto Escondido and Mazunte - still far from mass tourism and the typical gringo trail. It's a place where you can experience a slower rhythm of life and a deeper connection with local culture and nature.Locals here are warm and welcoming, and you might even pick up a few words of Zapotec, the local Indigenous language. If you want to immerse yourself further in the local life, you can also join the monthly Tequio - a traditional form of collective community work where neighbors come together to repair roads, clean beaches, or help someone build or fix their home.

As we live in community, we count on our volunteers to help maintain and support the vibe of the place. We're looking for people who are : clean, organized, and proactive - who love cooking, hosting, and connecting people - and who speak both English and Spanish.

Cet hôte propose un échange linguistique
We recently started to organize weekly language exchanges that bring together volunteers, residents, guests, and locals. With tourism growing in Agua Blanca, English has become essential for the village's economic development - while many travelers want to learn Spanish. A perfect opportunity for mutual learning and real connection. Participants become both teacher and student, practicing through conversation, storytelling, and interactive games. Volunteers help design and run the sessions, making them playful, creative, and accessible to all levels. These exchanges are one of the ways this place roots itself in the local community - language learning as a bridge between worlds.

🚐 𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐝𝐨 𝐈 𝐠𝐞𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 / 𝐦𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝?
Getting around the Oaxacan coast is easy with buses and colectivos - all hailed along the main coastal road. Look for the destination written on their windshields.

𝐅𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐏𝐮𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐨 𝐄𝐬𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐝𝐨 : take a Delfines colectivo (direction Pochutla) from the main road near Chedraui. Runs 6am to 7–8pm. 50 MXN.
𝐅𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐎𝐚𝐱𝐚𝐜𝐚 𝐜𝐢𝐭𝐲 : take a Lineas Unidas minivan (direction Pochutla) but buy your ticket only until Santa Elena. Departures every hour, 6am to 10pm. 350 MXN.
𝐅𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐌𝐚𝐳𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐞 : reach the Crucero de San Antonio first, then take a colectivo toward Puerto Escondido. Last ones run around 6–7pm.
In all cases, ask to be dropped at the entrance of Agua Blanca. From there it's a 20-minute walk - doable with a light bag. If you're carrying a lot, there are moto taxis making the road for 30 pesos per person. Let us know your arrival time and we'll help coordinate!

🛵 𝐅𝐨𝐫 𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐫 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐲𝐬, 𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚 𝐛𝐢𝐤𝐞 𝐨𝐫 𝐬𝐜𝐨𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐢𝐬 𝐚 𝐠𝐚𝐦𝐞-𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐫 - it opens up surf spots, mountain escapes, and everything in between.

🌴 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐝𝐨 𝐝𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐦𝐲 𝐟𝐫𝐞𝐞 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞?

𝐌𝐨𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐟𝐮𝐥𝐥 : shared activities, workshops, family dinners, pizza parties, bonfire nights, outdoor cinema under the stars, and the occasional party at the neighbors' house.
Afternoons are totally yours. A good moment to slow down and embrace the laid-back atmosphere of Agua Blanca. During the week the beach is almost all yours - and on weekends it fills with local visitors who come for the seafood and the freshly caught oysters.

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐜𝐨𝐚𝐬𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐚 𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐞: charming villages like Mazunte, Zipolite, and Puerto Ángel; uncrowded surf spots; sea turtle nestings, crocodile lagoons, and winter whale sightings along the coast. And for something truly magical - head to Laguna de Manialtepec to swim among bioluminescent organisms under a star-filled sky. ✨

    ---

    🍲 𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐝𝐨 𝐦𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐬 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤?
Every morning we gather in the shared kitchen around a plate of fruits (or sometimes pancakes or crepes) and coffee. This is not a full breakfast - just a sweet way to start the day together. The shared kitchen is open all day for you to prepare your own lunch and breakfast at your own rhythm. Just keep in mind it's reserved for family dinner between 6 and 8pm.

If you have specific breakfast or lunch preferences, we recommend picking them up before arriving - food options in the village are very limited.
For lunch, there are local seafood restaurants on the beach (open during the day only). Don't miss the local specialty: freshly caught oysters. 🦪

𝐅𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐲 𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐫 — 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲

The village has only one food option in the evenings (the local taqueria, which we visit together at least once a week) and the nearest grocery carries only basic products. So early on, we decided to organize things differently.
Twice a week we do a community grocery run. We all pool a small contribution toward shared groceries - guests, volunteers, and residents - buy ingredients for everyone, and cook as a team. Everyone participates: chopping, cooking, washing up, just like at home. It's not a service, it's not a restaurant. It's a shared moment. One of the best ones, actually.
Our kitchen is mostly plant-based. We occasionally cook with meat or fish, but we're happy to adapt. Just let us know about any allergies or preferences before you arrive.

    ---

💸 𝐖𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐧𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐀𝐓𝐌?
The nearest ATM is in Puerto Escondido, about 40 minutes away. The village has no ATM and most local shops are cash only - we recommend arriving with enough pesos to cover your first week.

    ---

    💻 𝐂𝐚𝐧 𝐈 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤 𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐲 ?
It's possible. WiFi works fine for calls, messages, and basic browsing. Don't expect superfast or 100% constant connection though - we're not set up as a coworking space. If you need reliable high-speed internet for heavy work, it might not be the right fit.
But if you just need to stay loosely connected while living slowly - this is your home.
The real vibe here: we don't connect to the internet, we step back and take the time to connect with ourselves, each other, and nature.

    ---

    🌊 𝐂𝐚𝐧 𝐈 𝐬𝐰𝐢𝐦 𝐬𝐚𝐟𝐞𝐥𝐲?
Just 100 meters you'll find our wild beach - beautiful for walks, yoga, and even watching the whales from the beach (nov-march). Depending on the season, the open ocean can have very strong currents and big waves, so we don't recommend swimming far out.
The good news: nearby there are natural mermaid pools - rock pools where it's totally safe to swim or dip. Depending on the tide, sometimes shallow, sometimes deeper. We'll show you when you arrive. 🧜‍♀️

    ---

🏄 𝐂𝐚𝐧 𝐈 𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐟 𝐢𝐧 𝐀𝐠𝐮𝐚 𝐁𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐚?
There are two spots in the village, but they're for experienced surfers only. Big waves and rocks make them unforgiving for beginners. If you're traveling by bike or scooter, there are several spots in the area for intermediate levels. One thing to keep in mind: there's no board rental in Agua Blanca, so bring your own if you can.

    ---

    🦟 𝐀𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐭𝐨𝐞𝐬?
Yes! This is the jungle coast, so mosquito repellent is essential - especially during the rainy season (June to October). Long sleeves in the evening help too. You'll get used to it quickly.
