    Description

Join our communal lifestyle with young artists from all over the world, aiming to make arts-oriented skills training accessible for everyone.

    Our lifestyle:

During your stay, you will live together with us in our dynamic communal space - a four-bedroom house located only 30 minutes from Kampala. The village we stay in has a welcoming atmosphere and many aspiring artists waiting to enrol in our up-coming project for the spring of 2025.
Apart from our charity project, we arrange events around town every weekend, such as music performances and other fun gatherings. We also love to explore different parts of Uganda, and we go for road trips several times per month. We are like a big family!

    Our project:

Our START-project (Storytelling Through ART) aims to give children and youths in our area free access to art practices. We are all engaged in artivism (art + activism) and see artwork as a chance to raise awareness of societal issues. Joining us on this journey is an opportunity to explore Sub-Saharan Africa and share your skills with our vibrant community at the same time - Welcome!

    Practical information:

We offer shared accommodation in a room with two dorm-beds. We provide two meals per day (breakfast + dinner) except on weekends, when the chef is free. We love animals and have two cats and one dog, all staying with us in the house. The hot tap-water is limited but we have free access to harvested water. The house is located in a safe and rural area, but it is very lively with sports-activities taking place every day. In case you want to volunteer with an NGO nearby, such as an animal shelter or educational provider, we can help you with contacts.

Last of all, to stay with us you will need to have an open mind and a big heart. We come from different cultures and backgrounds and see our differences as an asset in our work, not an obstacle. We hope you will enjoy your time with us!

    From the main host:
I am a Swedish citizen residing in Uganda since a few years back, and I've never regretted my decision! I've made so many friends and some of them I now call family. We are a mixed team of locals and foreigners living side by side, constantly learning from each other and growing together as a unity. We can't wait to share this with more people!

You will never get bored with us.

    WE OFFER:

    - Late evening chats and a lot of board games
    - Tours suitable for young groups in Uganda and beyond (Murchison, Karamoja, Rwenzori, Jinja etc.)
    - Endless cuddles with our watch dog Scooby
    - Language classes (Luganda and Swahili)
    - Traditional cooking classes
    - Sessions in craft making, carpentry and different art forms

Are you interested in ethical storytelling through photography, music and other art forms?
Then you are more than welcome to join our team of professional artists and help us organise our skills training for youths. Except for our START-project, you are also welcome to help us with any of the following:

    Management:
Our aim is to grow and with time develop into a registered CBO. If you have previous experience within this field, we are very thankful to get your help!

    Event planning:
We work together with other professional artists and arrange events almost every weekend around Kampala. We can never get enough of good ideas and if you want to help us plan and execute these evenings, we are happy to let you on board! Make posters, advertise and reach out to different venues. Public music performances are one of our ways to fundraise for our charity projects.

    Maintenance:
We are currently renovating parts of the house. Feel free to engage in the work whenever you want!

    Marketing & fundraising:
We are more than happy to share our content with people who are willing to help us fundraise. This can be done both before, during and after your stay!

Lend a hand to a local organisation in our area:
We have many other projects within various fields running in our area which also need support. The ones we support are focusing on animal welfare, carpentry and farming.

    Hébergement

You will stay in the same house as us (five people aged 25 - 30) in a shared dorm room together with maximum three other volunteers. The house can accommodate 10 people in total. We have two shared bathrooms, a large sitting area and a fully equipped kitchen with all necessities available. The hot tap water is limited but we have full access to harvested water. Breakfast and dinner are provided Monday - Friday.

Despite us being located in a rural setting, there is always something happening in the neighbourhood. In case you want to have a chill day, there is a swimming pool just a 5 minutes' walk away and we are less than 30 minutes away from Kampala with public transportation!
