The work Camp takes place!
The main projects are construction tasks on the to-be visitors center of the historic garden. The projects to be done will be 100% manual tasks and require no previous knowledge. We will surround the walls of the building with compressed concrete and we will pigment the concrete layers to realize a mottling effect.
We have hosted several workcamps in recent years. Every single camp was a wonderful experience for the participants as well as for the hosts.
In 2007 a small group of enthusiastic people founded a non-profit-organization at a castle in the east-german countryside. They gave the place a new meaning by reviving it with art, theater and musical performances and simultaneously started renovating the castle and reshaping the surrounding grounds.
In recent years the project expanded into the local community and the cultural landscape around the castle.
Some mayor restoration works have been finished, while others are still in progress. in 2020 the main focus lies on the cultivation of a garden created according to historical plans dating back to the 16th century.
The Castle lives through its inhabitants and its visitors. It is a cultural point of reference in the region. We would like to invite you to join us and to spread word on our activities in the region and beyond.

You will definitely learn a lot. But it will also depend on your own. We consider self-organization, cooperation and exchange in group-dynamics the most important and enriching forms of increasing your own skills to unexpected levels.
Sure you will learn something about different handcrafts and find out about the joy to create art in exchange with other people. Possibly you can do theater, music, painting, sculpturing... any kind of art which inspires you! It will be up to you!
The tasks could be physically demanding.
You have to care for yourself, and your help as well as your leisure time will be decided upon by yourself or collectively as a group (if we host some more volunteers at one time).
Nevertheless we can ensure that you will be having a great time at the castle not only in your time off, but also during the tasks carried out together.
If you are open-minded, not older than 25, you like to meet new people, enjoy accomplishing something for the greater good and want to help create this visitors center together with the inhabitants of the castle, then you are in the right place!
You will be accommodated at the Castle. Depending from the time you will join us, you will have a room by your own, or you will have to share it with some other volunteers. However, we will always have a comfortable place for you.
We have one kitchen and we 're cooking mainly together. This castle lives through the inhabitants and its visitors. So everyone is seen as an active part in keeping this beautiful place alive.
The next airport is Airport Halle/Leipzig. You can then reach us by train. The castle is located in a village in the northern part of thuringia/germany. The next train station is in a distance of 7 km. There will always be someone to pick you up. Besides, at the Castle there are always some bikes are available, so that you can easily go around by yourself. The village itself has a small bakery and there are some more shops nearby in the next towns, also available by bike.
Your time off you can enjoy by staying at the castle ('cause there is always something going on) or you can take time to have an excursion to some of the many interesting places and sites around. In this area of thuringia there are a lot of old castle ruins, lovely hills with roads for daylong hiking. In a village nearby you can also go for a swim. If you need some days out of the countryside, you can reach the city of Erfurt (regional capital) by train in an hour.
