Description
We are a family which moved from the Netherlands to Sweden in 2008 and are running a small sheep farm in the province of Hälsingland (280 km NE of Stockholm). Our daughter has moved abroad and now it's just us two living here.
Besides sheep we have chickens, pigs, a dog and a Shetland pony. Since the winters are usually long here there's a lot of work to be done in summer; shearing sheep, making hay (june/july), work in the forest, fixing/maintaining fences, painting, maintaining the buildings etc. Last year we even built a greenhouse and are now growing vegetables, both inside and outside. We are trying to be self-supporting.
. We prefer you stay at least 2 weeks (alone or with a travel companion) so we have a chance to get to know each other and you have time to experience our way of life, You can also take a look on our website jansenlantbruk.se. We speak English, German, Swedish, Dutch and some French.
Another important reason we would like to welcome a volunteer in our home is that we like to meet new people and share different ways of life.

Aide
Most of the task we like to have help with of volunteers is: Fencing sheep meadows, painting, shearing sheep, and helping to build up our vegetable project according to permaculture and hügelkultur. We like people who are used to take own initiative and see where the work is. Apart from the hay season when the weather dictates the working hours, you will have freedom to plan working hours.

Autres infos...
Hälsingland is very beautiful with lots of forest to hike in and lakes and rivers with sandy beaches to swim or fish in. The nearest larger town is about 30 km away and can be reached by bus. If you have a driving license you can borrow our car from time to time in your free-time. Also the Swedish coast is very nice here with lots of small island and fishing villages. We also like to enjoy all this in our free-time and will be happy to show you the best sites.
We live close (< 3 km) to the lake which is great for swimming. We also live close to a horseback riding school, a mountain bike park, and a newly opened adventure park with zip-line, via ferrata etc. Furthermore, the area is great for hiking with day hikes och longer hikes starting right from the back yard.Informations complémentaires

When I was here it was time to get new lambs. They were so cute!
I mainly helped feeding sheep, giving milk to a lamb whose mother rejected to take care of him and playing with Jack (a dog)! I also helped cleaning forest so that sheep can stay during summer and some house chores.
Working here is not so hard and… read more
