  • Description

Welcome to our unique language school and Social Enterprise providing English education, IT and job opportunities to over 350 students across 2 communities in the countryside of Cambodia.

Our first school opened in 2015, the fulfillment of a dream by our founder to educate students in his village. Over the years, the school has flourished and now has built three centers in two different provinces. We have 10 full-time teachers and actively recruit volunteers to assist them in teaching.

We invite volunteers to help teach English classes and practice English with our students, but also love volunteers who have other ideas to help develop new projects or fundraising campaigns. We hope volunteers will bring energy and initiative and help us achieve our goals!

We provide free accommodation and food to our volunteers, who are highly valued and appreciated by everyone at the school! Whether you stay for one or three months, you will certainly have a positive impact at our school. All the students and teachers are always very excited to meet foreigners as it gives them an opportunity to learn and also practice speaking English.

We look forward to hearing from you! :)

It's estimated that during the Khmer Rouge (1975-1979) up to two million Cambodians were brutally murdered, a quarter of the population at the time. In an effort to transform Cambodia into a utopian farming nation, Pol Pot targeted intellectuals and anyone with an education, wiping out all of the country’s doctors, teachers, buddhist monks and engineers. The Khmer Rouge left the country in ruin with no human resources or knowledge to rebuild.

The impact of this genocide is still felt deeply across Cambodia, with poverty largely concentrated in the rural areas. According to the World Bank, nearly three quarters of the population still live on less than US$3 a day. Only 45% of children aged 5 to 17 have the chance to attend school and a severe shortage of resources, teachers and government funding in education (only 1.6% of GDP) means that teachers lack proper training, pay and in the rural areas many have not even completed their high school education.

With only 40% of the population enrolling in secondary education, many Cambodians are illiterate and unable to converse in English or use a computer. The role of our projects in Cambodia is vital to provide opportunities to young people who would otherwise be stuck in a cycle of agricultural exploitation and poverty. Education is the most powerful tool that we can give to this generation, as a way to protect themselves from exploitation and also pursue meaningful careers and dreams.

Our Cambodian teachers are all very good English speakers and really keen to share all they know about Cambodian history and culture with our volunteers. There's also a lot of potential (depending on the season) for those adventurous volunteers to learn some of the local agricultural practises and techniques. Furthermore, Battambang is one of the most culturally rich provinces in Cambodia, with plenty of cultural and artistic events and activities throughout the year.

  • Aide

Volunteers can help with the daily tasks of teaching. We enjoy having English speakers teach classes to help with pronunciation, bring new strategies and games in the classroom, and share their culture with the the students. Teachers can also assist us in the development of our curriculum.

We would also like to host long-term volunteers (2 months+) who want to take on special projects to help advance our NGO. Skills in business/ NGO development, art, social media, photography and videography, all help advance our school. Come share your ideas and talents with us!

At the moment we need volunteers to help with:

    - Teaching English & Speaking Practice
    - Helping teacher trainees to teach better
    - Construction of new schools/classrooms (depends when you come)
    - Creative projects
    - Project Design & Implementation (long-term volunteers)
    - Curriculum Development (long-term volunteers)

We're very open to ideas and welcome any initiatives that could help the school and our beneficiaries.

  • Hébergement

Our accommodation in Battambang is basic Khmer rural style with a western sit-down toilet and kitchen facilities for volunteers. Accommodation is single sex and shared with other local and international volunteers. Accommodation in Kampong Chhnang is slightly more modern with a traditional squat toilet and is a mix-dorm style.

We provide free lunch and dinner everyday, including a variety of delicious Cambodian dishes accompanied by Battambang's signature homegrown rice. Most meals contain meat and a wide range of organic fruit and vegetables that are also grown on site. Aside from the two meals, the family with which we stay regularly treat us to a seasonal variety of exotic fruits and snacks such as mango, papaya, jackfruit, bananas, wood apple, sugar cane and pumpkin. If that's still not enough, the school has a small shop that sells a variety of snacks, bread and cold drinks. We are also walking distance from the local market where there are even more options.

    Accommodation includes:

    - Two delicious Cambodian meals per day
    - Free drinking water & refrigeration
    - Mosquito Net, Mattress & Fan
    - Squat/ Western toilet, traditional Cambodian bucket shower
