Joy is true to her name - joyful, optimistic, and warm. She was our first Workaway host and made us feel so welcome right from the moment she picked us up from the train station. We very much enjoyed our 5 weeks with her (and Alfie & Lilly, her dog and cat).
While we were at Joy’s we helped her harvest olives from her garden and experienced the

Joy is a skilled artist, and her ceramic masterpieces can be found all over the house and garden. We also helped with daily chores, including cooking lunch and dinner, taking out trash, starting the evening fire, and feeding the pets. Alfie is an acquired taste, but give him some time and he’ll somehow work his way into your heart :)
Joy was kind enough to bring us along to several local events and we really enjoyed getting to know her friends, visiting the cafe down the road, and exploring the nearby villages. Joy was always willing to give us a ride to the train station and gave us great suggestions for fun things to do on our days off. You also can’t beat the view from her backyard. We highly suggest taking a few minutes out of every day to soak in the scenery!
Every meal with Joy was full of storytelling and conversation - even the occasional poem or song! We learned a lot about Scottish culture, language, and traditions, which made us excited to visit Scotland someday soon. But it was also so helpful to be introduced to Italian culture from a fellow expat's perspective.
Overall we really grew a lot on this first Workaway and came away having learned so much, and are very grateful to have had Joy as our first host.Vous pouvez seulement contacter les workawayers avec une adhésion active.

Christine was with me for three weeks. She is always bright and cheery and a joy to have as a houseguest. She was great company and we had some lovely times out and about socially. I was really sad to see Christine leave, not only is she an incredibly hard worker but everything she did was done to perfection.
She was a great help about the house
… read more and is a good cook. She was fearless in tackling any of the jobs in an about the garden especially those that included using heavy gardening equipment. She cleared entire fields for me, weeded tirelessly and did every task with enthusiasm. It became very obvious that as a Farmer’s daughter she was not afraid of hard work. She was also a great help with my cat and my dog Alfie who is not always the best behaved.
Christine‘s English is very good and we had no problem at all communicating with one another. I would absolutely recommend her as your next workaway. I have invited her back to help me anytime she wishes. She will be welcomed with open arms and a big hug!

I spent three amazing weeks with Joy in Italy in her beautiful garden. It was my first workaway experience and I was incredibly lucky to have such a great and warm hostess like Joy.
When she picked me up at the train station on the first day and greeted me with a hug, I felt welcome from the first moment!
I had a lot of fun working in the garden
… read more with Joy, she is very helpful and always appreciated my jobs done!
I had different tasks every day so it never got monotonous. These included lawn trimming, weeding, cleaning flower beds, trimming wood, cleaning pool furniture etc... the main task was simply getting the garden ready for spring/summer again and letting it shine again in its full glory!
I was allowed to sleep in the basement, where the summer kitchen, a bathroom with a bathtub and a large, bright, friendly room equipped with a large, comfortable bed and a sofa are located.
Saturday and Sunday were free and gave the opportunity to explore the beautiful surrounding area or spend a day in Rome which I would highly recommend as there is a great train connection! Joy was always willing to take me to the train station and pick me up again.
What I really want to mention and what is not self-evident is the friendly and incredibly warm nature of Joy! She is an amazing interesting and loving person who has grown very dear to my heart in such a short time! Thanks for everything and the great time dear Joy!
I highly recommand Joy and this experience to all workawayers! It's more than 5 stars worth!Vous pouvez seulement contacter les workawayers avec une adhésion active.

We spent the best part of 3 weeks with Joy and have thoroughly enjoyed our time with her. She is a lovely person, with lots of stories to tell from a fascinating life and is a great host who made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived at the train station. … read more trips to some fantastic nearby towns introduced us to many of her local friends and was always available to drop us at the station for day trips into Rome and collect us afterwards!
We had our own apartment downstairs which had only recently been completed but was well equipped, spacious, very comfortable and quiet.
Joy gave us a walk through the garden on day one and listed some things she wanted to achieve with us and a rough outline for what work we could help her out with. We worked predominantly in her lovely Italian garden doing everything from pruning Olive trees to building a fence and a BBQ. We also helped out as often as possible around the house, general tidying and building the fires, feeding Lily the cat and Alfie the dog. We were always happy to work each day and although some tasks required some hard work, it was always satisfying to see projects completed and to help Joy with some difficult tasks around the house and garden.
We can’t recommend Joy highly enough and hope to return as soon as we possibly can

I really only need one word to describe my experience with Rob and Hannah.......BRILLIANT! However, I will expand further for those of you who like details. They are an extremely pleasant, hardworking couple who listen carefully to what needs to be done and have the common sense to use their own initiative when it is called for. The work they did

They became experts at wrangling my mischievous dog and were incredibly helpful house guests, I never had to ask them to do anything, it was all done before I could ask. Rob and Hannah are very good company socially, all my friends who met them agree! I would like to have adopted them if possible. They have set the bar extremely high for any other Workaways I may host. All the best for your future travels Rob and Hannah.Feedback
