Description
Hi there! We are a friendly English/German couple seeking volunteers to help us on our beautiful Quinta located just 25 minutes from Albufeira in Portugal.
We're Charlie and Lucy, a adventurous couple who love nature, culture, and community. I (Charlie) have a background in water sports and ski instruction, as well as painting and decorating, while Lucy is a former primary school teacher. We've combined our skills and embarked on a new adventure as Quinta renovators in Portugal. We're friendly individuals who enjoy meeting new people, sharing stories, and learning from different cultures.
We're dedicated to restoring our Quinta and creating a welcoming space for volunteers to meet and contribute to our goals, while also enjoying the stunning Portuguese landscape and local community.
As we're in the process of restoring and renovating our Quinta, we require volunteers to have a basic knowledge of tools to assist us with various tasks. These tasks include gardening, cleaning, feeding our animals (including dogs and horses), renovating, building, and removals.
Gardening involves planting, pruning, weeding, and watering the plants and trees around the Quinta. Cleaning includes keeping the accommodation and communal areas tidy and clean, and ensuring that our animals' living areas are well-maintained. Feeding our animals is an essential daily task, and you'll have the opportunity to interact with our friendly dogs, chickens and horses. Renovating and building tasks will mainly involve painting and removal works, such as clearing out old furniture and debris.
The minimum stay is 4 weeks, but we're open to longer stays if you're interested in immersing yourself in the local culture and lifestyle.
In exchange for your help for 3 hours a day, we'll provide you with a spacious Portuguese-style room with en-suite and kitchen with stunning views over a nearby lake. You'll also have access to our pool and the surrounding land and lakes, which are perfect for exploring in your free time.
We're excited to welcome volunteers to our home to help us bring this beautiful Quinta back to life. If you're passionate about culture, nature, and hard work, we'd love to hear from you! Whether you're an experienced builder or a beginner gardener, we believe that everyone has something to contribute, and we're excited to learn from and work alongside volunteers from all over the world.

As an English/German couple living in the small town of São Bartolomeu de Messines in Portugal, we offer a unique blend of cultures and perspectives. We enjoy sharing our knowledge and experiences with others, and we're always interested in learning about the backgrounds and cultures of our volunteers.
Our Quinta is located in an area of stunning natural beauty, surrounded by rolling hills and quaint towns. While there are only a few small lakes nearby, they still offer a peaceful and relaxing escape for volunteers. Plus, for those who enjoy water sports, there's a beach just 25 minutes away where volunteers can surf and soak up the sun.
In addition to the nearby beach, the town of São Bartolomeu de Messines offers a taste of traditional Portuguese life. Volunteers can explore the town and interact with the friendly locals, trying traditional foods and learning about local customs.
We also believe that the experience of working and living on our Quinta is a unique cultural exchange in itself. Volunteers will have the opportunity to learn DIY and renovation skills, and gain insight into what it's like to live and work on a self-sustaining property.

Aide
Gardening: We have a large garden that needs regular maintenance, including weeding, pruning, planting, watering, and general upkeep. Volunteers with experience in horticulture, landscaping, or gardening are particularly welcome.
Cleaning: We have several communal areas that require regular cleaning, including bathrooms, kitchen, and living spaces. In addition, we also need help with cleaning the accommodation
Animal Care: We have a few animals on our Quinta, including dogs and horses. Volunteers will assist with feeding and cleaning the stables and kennels. This includes providing food and water for the animals, cleaning up after them, and helping with basic care.
Renovating and Removals: As we continue to work on renovating and improving our Quinta, we require volunteers to help us with various tasks such as painting and removals. volunteers who have some basic knowledge of using tools and equipment such as paintbrushes, rollers, and simple hand tools Is ideal.

Volunteers will have their own private, spacious rooms on our Quinta, with beautiful views overlooking a nearby lake. The rooms are comfortable and feature Portuguese-style decor, with all the amenities needed for a pleasant stay. Each room is equipped with its own private bathroom and kitchenette, so volunteers can prepare their own meals at their convenience.
We encourage volunteers to bring their own food supplies and prepare their own meals during their stay.

As for our lifestyle, we enjoy living a simple and sustainable life here on the Quinta. We believe in living in harmony with nature and taking care of the land around us. We grow some of our own food and try to reduce our waste and consumption wherever possible. We also love to spend time outdoors, whether it's hiking in the nearby hills, swimming in the lakes, or just relaxing by the pool.
When it comes to expectations for volunteers living with us, we ask that they respect our home and our way of life. We believe in open communication and collaboration, and we appreciate volunteers who are willing to work hard and take initiative. We are looking for people, who can work on tasks without supervision or constant instruction.
We also understand that everyone has their own needs and preferences, and we're happy to be flexible and work with volunteers to ensure that their experience here is enjoyable and fulfilling.
As for the surrounding area, it's a beautiful and diverse region with much to offer. We're always happy to share our knowledge and recommendations with volunteers, whether it's about the best hiking trails, local restaurants, or cultural events in the area. We hope that volunteers will take advantage of their time here to explore and learn about the unique culture and natural beauty of Portugal.
In terms of transportation, there is a local train that runs from São Bartolomeu de Messines to Faro and Lisbon, where there are connections to other parts of the region. We can also provide volunteers with bicycles to explore the surrounding countryside. Be aware that our location is a bit remote. If you want to get around and be as flexible as possible we suggest to rent a car. If you’re happy to use bicycles to get to around we are more than happy to make that possible.
During their free time, volunteers are welcome to explore the lakes and nearby hills, relax by the pool, or visit the nearby beaches for surfing or other water sports.

Both Lucy, Charlie and the place are amazing.
Our main job was painting, we always knew what we had to do and they trusted us in that task.
