Description
We are Nathalie and Jérôme, running a small regenerative market garden in Mauritius under the motto “Regenerating Soil & Soul.” Our farm is both a place of production and a space where people reconnect with nature, food and meaningful conversations.
However, first and foremost, this is a working farm. Depending on the season, there is a lot to do: preparing beds, weeding, mulching, composting, planting and general garden maintenance. The work is hands-on, sometimes repetitive, and takes place in tropical conditions (heat, humidity, insects).
We welcome volunteers who enjoy practical outdoor work and who are happy to contribute to the daily rhythm of the farm. In exchange, we share our experience in regenerative agriculture, simple living and community building, and you will experience life close to nature in a peaceful environment.
If you like getting your hands in the soil, learning by doing, and being part of a small, purpose-driven project, you will feel at home here.
Please apply only if you can stay for a month (that’s both the minimum and maximum) and have some experience or a strong interest in what we're doing!

By joining us on the farm, you’ll get hands-on with sustainable farming practices in a subtropical setting, picking up new skills. You’ll see why things like soil health and biodiversity matter, all while contributing to a meaningful cause.
In addition, you'll have the chance to experience Mauritian culture first-hand. You’ll get to try local food, learn about customs, and even pick up a few Creole phrases.

We're looking for help around the farm with daily tasks like taking care of our animals and working in the veggie gardens. We’d also love your thoughts and skills as we tackle ongoing projects to improve the farm.
If you're handy with tools, we could really use your help with maintenance and the occasional DIY project that pops up.
We're excited to welcome people who are curious, caring, and responsible. Volunteering here is more than just putting in hours for a free place to stay; it’s about living together in a space that balances human needs with nature. Here, plants and animals share their lives with us.
So, please take a moment to tell us about yourself—who you are, why you want to join us, your experiences, and what skills you can bring. You’re also welcome to pitch in with your own ideas and interests, whether it’s building things, crafting, or anything else!
Once you commit, we really need you to show up. Our project depends on everyone being here, and it creates challenges for us when someone doesn’t come through. So, please be honest with us if you're unsure.

Hébergement
Our farm is located in Bois Rouge in the North of the beautiful island of Mauritius in the middle of sugarcane fields with a view of the mountains.
We also live on the farm; you will be lodged near the main entry in a studio with separate shower/toilet, and we live at the far end of the farm. Full disclosure: toilet may sometimes be used by visitors too. All openings in the studio are fitted with mosquito nettings, so no need to worry about unwanted bugs visiting you while you're sleeping.
Completely off-the-grid, we have solar panels for electricity and a rainwater harvesting system that provides us with water for the kitchen, shower and toilet. We have access to a borehole as a backup source of water.
All used waters return to our land, so please try to avoid as much as possible soaps, toothpaste, and chemical products that are not biodegradable.
Autres infos...
Considering our subtropical climate, work on the farm happens early in the morning and end of the afternoon. Meaning you are free to spend your time as you like in the afternoons and evenings.
There is a bus stop within walking distance, and we are a 5-minute drive from a shopping mall (bank, supermarket, food court, shops).
Mauritius is a melting pot of different cultures and religions, making it an interesting destination, whether culturally or food-wise. It is often called the "honeymoon" island as many newlyweds spend their honeymoon here, attracted by the pristine beaches and turquoise lagoons. You will have plenty of opportunities to visit the island and profit from all there is to do!

He did not hesitate to brainstorm with us when tackling challenges at the farm and he provided great input.
It did not hurt either that he is an amiable and calm person, easy to be around!
