Description
Hello and welcome. We are a homesteading family of six living on a truly special piece of land in the heart of Canada’s Rocky Mountains. We are raising three young daughters here, alongside Grandma, who is our sixth family member and lives comfortably in an RV on the property.
Our homestead spans approximately 300 acres just outside Radium Hot Springs, British Columbia. The land borders the Columbia River, with Forster’s Creek running directly through it. Parts of the property fall within the biodiverse and protected Columbia Valley wetlands, while other areas rise into forested hills that lead to breathtaking viewpoints. Wildlife is abundant here, and sightings are a regular part of daily life.
We often joke that we are “one cow away” from living entirely off the land—though milking cows is not currently on the agenda. At present, we harvest roughly 90 percent of our food ourselves. This includes farm-raised chickens and vegetables, as well as self-caught fish and hunted game. Our focus is on self-sufficiency, sustainability, and clean, healthy eating.
The homestead includes a large garden, a greenhouse, a mushroom grow room, and several kilometers of walking and working trails throughout the property. We are not a commercial farm(business) but there is always something meaningful to build, tend, improve, or learn here, and we truly enjoy sharing this lifestyle with others who are curious, hardworking, and appreciative of nature.

Echange culturel et opportunités d'apprendre
I have spent many years traveling the world and genuinely enjoy sharing those experiences with others. Because of this, I value learning about new people, cultures, and traditions, and I appreciate the exchange of stories, perspectives, and skills that comes from living and working together.
Working with us offers a chance to experience how a traditional Canadian family lives and how families in this region have lived for generations. We enjoy sharing our knowledge of the land, the local history, and the rhythms of life in the Columbia Valley. There are also opportunities to join us at the local farmers’ market and be part of that community experience.
Outside of daily homestead life, our area offers exceptional access to hiking, canoeing, hot springs, lakes, fishing, and wildlife watching. The Rocky Mountains are a majestic and grounding place, known for bringing a sense of peace and perspective to those who spend time here.
For those interested, we are happy to share our knowledge of animal husbandry, traditional practices, and natural or traditional medicines. We see hosting as a true cultural and skills exchange and welcome people who are curious, respectful, and eager to learn while contributing meaningfully to life on the homestead.

Who We’re Looking For
We are looking for someone who genuinely wants to help out, learn, and be part of daily life on a working homestead. We love teaching and sharing the “how-tos” of homesteading, and this is a great opportunity for someone who is curious, hands-on, and eager to learn. At the same time, we need someone who is comfortable working independently, managing tasks on their own, and taking responsibility once instructions are given.
Most days involve a shared list of daily chores, along with a rotating list of projects that need attention. Clear direction is provided, but the ideal helper is a self-starter who can see a task through from beginning to end without constant supervision.
Typical Responsibilities May Include
Feeding and watering chickens
Planting, watering, and harvesting in the garden
Maintaining humidity levels in the mushroom grow rooms
General landscaping, upkeep, and property maintenance
Clearing and maintaining walking and work trails
Keeping a general, watchful eye on children as they move freely around the property
Helpful (But Not Required) Skills
Research and writing
Website building
Childcare experience
General cleaning and organization
A Great Fit for Our Homestead
The right person for our family is kind, light-hearted, and positive, but also willing to put in the occasional hard day’s work. You are dependable, able to take direction, and confident working alone when needed. You enjoy being outdoors, don’t mind getting dirty, and appreciate the rhythm of physical work balanced with learning and family time.
We value people who are open to learning new skills and equally open to sharing their own knowledge and experiences with us. If you are playful, respectful, adaptable, and interested in becoming a part of our family while you are here, you will likely feel right at home.

I speak English only, fluently. My wife fluently speaks English and French. We both dabble in a little Spanish and would be open to learning more and teaching our children Spanish. My wife is currently taking Mandarin lessons and would be open to learning that language. My wife is also an accredited ESL teacher.
Hébergement
We will be providing a RV for people to live in while here. It is a good size RV with bathroom, kitchen, living room, and bedroom. The RV will have power, water, and sewer hooked up to it. Some meals can be had in our family setting but you/we might also enjoy some privacy and with that you can cook some of your own meals. We can generally provide some meats, vegetables, and eggs for your personal cooking experience.

Autres infos...
Our homestead is located approximately two kilometers from the village of Radium Hot Springs. Transportation into town can usually be arranged with us, and for those who prefer, Radium is also easily accessible by walking or biking.
The larger town of Invermere, which offers full amenities, shops, and services, is about a 15-minute drive from our home. We travel there one to two times per week and are happy to help coordinate rides when possible.
Helpers will have access to ATVs for exploring areas outside of town, and there are endless opportunities to roam on foot as well. Thousands of acres of surrounding land connect to our property, offering extensive walking, wildlife viewing, and quiet time in nature. If you enjoy independence, open space, and the ability to explore at your own pace, this location offers an exceptional balance of seclusion and convenience.
