    Description

Welcome to Our Corner of Paradise!

My husband and I are professional wildlife guides and we live in one of the most beautiful and biodiverse places on Earth—Drake Bay, Costa Rica. Our home is nestled in the rainforest, about a 10-minute walk from the beach - and only is accessible by foot. The nearest village is about a 40-minute walk away, through the forest and along the beach. We share our home with two cats. Howler monkeys and toucans provide the wake-up calls.

What we love most about this place is the peace and wildlife. We get to share our days with an abundance of wildlife - even the occasional tapir! In our spare time we enjoy painting, reading, photography and hiking.

    Echange culturel et opportunités d'apprendre

Drake Bay is a destination that welcomes guests from all over the world. A visit to the nearby village will give you the opportunity not only to meet some of the friendliest locals, but also to exchange stories with travelers from every corner of the globe. This creates a rich cultural mix where Workawayers can experience daily Costa Rican life while also connecting with an international community.

During your stay, you will also have the chance to learn about the extraordinary wildlife of the region. We are surrounded by lush rainforest and an ocean full of life, and we are always happy to share our knowledge about the plants, insects, and animals that make this place so unique.

We see Workawayers as part of our family and team. We share meals, conversations, and laughter, and you will always be welcome to join in daily activities. In return, we also love learning from our visitors—whether it’s your traditions, language, cooking, or stories from your own culture.

By the end of your stay, you will not only gain a deeper appreciation for Costa Rican nature and culture, but also take with you lasting friendships and meaningful experiences.

We're looking for enthusiastic, independent, nature-loving Workawayers who are very happy to lend a hand and be part of our daily life here in Drake Bay. Depending on your skills and interests, here are some of the ways you can help:

    Gardening & Maintenance
Planting, weeding, pruning, raking, and helping with general upkeep.

    Cleaning
Help with general housekeeping, including window washing,

    Cooking

Eco-Tour Support (for the right person)
If you’re confident, curious, and passionate about wildlife, you might assist with our eco-tours

    DIY & Creative Projects
If you’re handy, we always have small projects such as fixing trails, maintenance

House sitting when we travel outside of Drake Bay.

Short-term Workawayers of one week, with two completely free days is welcomed. You might wish to spend your two free days visiting Corcovado and/ or Cano Island. These short-term stays are preferred over longer commitments.

    No drinking or smoking.

Because of our remote location and our own professional demands, potential Workawayers should be independent and able to manage personal needs without constant guidance. You will also need to be physically fit and enjoy hiking, be adaptable, responsible, and tidy.

Because we live in close contact with nature, it’s also important that applicants feel comfortable around all forms of wildlife. You will certainly encounter insects, spiders, amphibians, reptiles, lots of birds, bats, and other creatures during your stay. While they are a normal and fascinating part of our life here, those who are afraid of such animals may not feel at ease in this environment.

Before scheduling, we will meet by Zoom to see if it feels like a good fit, for both sides, and to answer any questions you may have regarding this opportunity.

We offer cozy, comfortable accommodations nestled in the heart of nature. You’ll be staying in our shared home, which has an open floor-plan between the kitchen, living and sleeping areas. The separate bathroom (shared) is very spacious, and offers hot water showers.

You'll normally have around 5 hours of completely private time while we are away on tours.

    🏡 What’s Included:

All Food (breakfast is self-catering). Lunch and dinner, with shared cooking responsibilities. We provide three meals a day in exchange for up to 25 hours a week of help, with two full days off to rest or explore the area. Meals and meal preparation are shared, so everyone takes part in both cooking and enjoying the food together.

This is a good opportunity to try typical Costa Rican meals, and if you wish, you are welcome to share recipes or dishes from your own background. We see the kitchen as a place where cultural exchange happens naturally, through everyday routines and conversations.

A clean, cozy bed and a mosquito net (although mosquitoes are not an issue in the home).

Access to a shared bathroom with a hot-water shower.

    Washer and dryer

    Wi-Fi

    🌿 The Vibe:
It’s not too rustic - and very peaceful—no air conditioning, but plenty of fresh air, shade, and natural beauty.
