My stay with Kathryn and Mark (and Peter) was great! I'm really grateful to them for accepting me on such a short notice and since the very beginning they made me feel welcome into their home. Feedback

It is overall a very great workaway experience. I felt grateful to have met Kathryn and the family. They always treated me with kindness and were open. Kathryn would often check in with me to see my needs. She provided me with the contact details of previous volunteers to speak with before coming. During my stay, another volunteer was also here
… read more and we kept each other in great company and that's great memory! Kathryn also took us to Winchester on her way to work and that's a great day trip. Alton is also a nearby small town nice to visit.
The things I did include helping clean the house, looking after the chickens, feeding the cat, unloading the dishwasher, etc. They are not strict with things but do require you to respect their way of living eg. organic recycling. I also helped with house-sitting when Kathryn and Mark were away for several weeks. I helped organise the house during the time, this is not required, but something I would like to do and felt I could help.
The winter is harsh though. Coming at a warmer time would be better.
Overall, I’m truly grateful for this experience. It was so different from anything I’ve done before, and I really grew and learnt from it. Thank you for opening up your home and welcoming me in!Vous pouvez seulement contacter les workawayers avec une adhésion active.

I spent three weeks at Kathryn’s house. Her daughter lives nearby and my task was to help her as she has 2 year old twin boys. I cooked, tidied and watched them to give their mom a break. At Kathryn’s I stayed in a cozy caravan in the backyard, cooked and shared meals with Kathryn and another Workawayer who stayed in the van parked in the

The town of Alton is interesting if you like. History and trawling thrift stores. A cozy cafe bookshop was a welcome refuge from the endless frigid rain. Kathryn took me to interesting events including an ecstatic dance class, a sound bath, a puppy Happy Hour and to visit a friend of her’s in Portsmouth. Her work as a midwife is admirable and I can see that she cares deeply for her profession.
I must mention that her home environment is somewhat chaotic. It didn’t phase me as I didn’t spend much time in the house, but anyone with a preference for an orderly, spotless home would be overwhelmed and uncomfortable. Due to the cost of heating a house these days, I was obliged to wear several layers of clothing while inside as the thermostat was usually set to 10 degrees Celsius. The house is old and damp, so after washing my clothes, I’d hang them to dry in the camper which was warmer than the house. Kathryn shops for grocery bargains, so be sure to check the expiration date on food items. Other than these challenges, the stay was pleasant as she is an interesting person.

Brigi and I loved our hosts!
This was our first time being 2.5 weeks away from our home at a totally unknown family. In the beginings we were afraid but now we know that there was nothing to be afraid of.

Kathryn and Mark have an excellent communication skills... Very intelligent people.. I wouldn't have thought that they will be as calm and patient as I thought that they will be. To be honest we are very thankful for all the programms (playing rugby with Kathryn and Eliot, having a 8 mile hike in the forest and all the tours) and also for your patience and for the little english lessons!! Me and Brigi sometimes do mention it at home as a reminder for the reason that it was such a great experience.
We also won't forget the dinner talks when we cooked for you. (I hope that you didn't hate the pasta because of us haha )
Overall. Thank you for this excellent opportunity, whoever is reading my feedback and have a little scareness or afraidness I would wholeheartedly recommend them because you won't find a better host! We learned a lot... Thank you again!

I had the most wonderful time with Kathryn, Mark and Eliott and cannot express how lucky I feel to have met them!

Kathryn has been the most generous host, always offering me to join her on one of her many activities (rugby, yoga and such), showing me around and taking me here and there to visit many beautiful places in Hampshire. She has been very considerate and attentive to my needs. I enjoyed our conversation in the car and our dinners with a glass of wine!
Mark is all kindness and we shared nice times in the garden, under the gazébo with a good cider and good music. Mark has a good sense of humour and a good heart. I hope for many more conversations to come (in French!).
I also had a splendid time with Elliott and his lovely cousin Becky. Elliott is a joyful, fun and sweet young man who was kind enough to introduce me to his friends, killed both my legs during a lower body session at the gym and let me taste several of his delicious rice fried recipes.
In terms of work I have mainly helped with daily housework (collecting the eggs, making sure the chickens have food and water, hovering ....). I wish I had done more! A few times I went with Kathryn to her daugher Alicia's house and spent time with her and her adorable babies and managed to help a bit with cleaning. I really enjoyed being around Alicia, her husband and the babies.
After a month and a half I am happy to say that I have tried many new things, made wonderful new friends and had the time of my life :)

We are delighted to leave Helen the highest feedback rating (wish there were more stars!). We welcomed Helen as a volunteer and said a sad goodbye as a new family friend. Helen sold loads of unused stuff to happy buyers on marketplace & ebay, using her initiative while checking requirements with us. She looked after our chickens, gardened and cleared our garage which was full to the brim to make way for a usable space.
Helen is a very hard worker and needed little direction. No job was too much for her. She is an excellent cook.
Helen is a seasoned adventure traveller and seems inquisitive, flexible and relaxed in different environments. We enjoyed hearing about Helen's interesting travels and discussing our societies challenges on more than just a superficial level. We kept badgering her to see when she will return. If you get the chance to have Helen visit, take it!

I stayed with Kathryn and Mark for almost a month and enjoyed every minute of it. They are both laid back and generous, friendly people willing to give time where needed. After a couple of days of settling into the routine and understood what needed doing in and around the house I just got on with various jobs; looking after the hens, gardening,

The caravan was comfortable and cosy and I was able to get wifi in the caravan (and there is wifi in the house) but there is almost no signal for text messages or phone calls in that pocket of the countryside. Although you can cook in the caravan I chose to cook in the house. There is plenty of food in the house to choose from and Kathryn catered for my pescatarian needs. I had choice about when to eat and when to work.
Kathryn took me to Frencham Ponds one morning to do some wild swimming which was completely exhilarating and I was blessed with beautiful weather most of my stay which made it easy to spend time outside. The house is a drive from the nearest shops but they have a bicycle for Workawayer use and you can go on hikes from the house. I had a car and was able to access lots of beautiful places to go on hikes; all only an hour's drive away; North Wessex Downs, Surrey Hills & Chichester Harbour- all Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
I would recommend Kathryn and Mark's home to participate in a Workaway experience. I feel I have made new friends and I will definitely return.
