  • Description

Having left both school and home at the age of sixteen, I was blessed to retire some years ago at the early age of 44 and now focus on pursuing my passions, creativity and hobbies, mainly with regards to writing, photography, travelling and DIY restoration projects.

Also, having led quite an extraordinarily unique, colourful and interesting life, to date, has culminated in me gaining experiences, skills and wisdom in a wide range of areas and fields.

Furthermore, since my late teens, I have, not just visited but extensively explored upwards of 50 individual countries in the world, some of which many times.

I particularly enjoy road trips and have a small personally converted retro camper, that I regularly make use of for wild camping.

I've also driven three times around the entire continent of Australia, once for five months living out of the back of a very old and rickety station wagon car and have been twelve times to South Africa where I visit regularly and I am also an annual six month winter visitor to the Cote d'Azur, in the South of France Riviera.

When not living on the French Riviera, I mainly reside at my birthplace on the equally iconic Causeway Coast of Northern Ireland, in a very rural, secluded setting.

Despite my passion for travel, I am at the same time a consistent, committed and settled person who still likes to have my roots firmly planted somewhere.

I would consider myself kind, caring, friendly and intelligent as well as someone who enjoys life and loves the 'craic' (Northern Irish humour)

Being something of a traditionalist I still believe in chivalry, gentlemanly manners, loyalty and protecting those around me.

I am also someone who has experienced both pleasure and pain, triumph and trauma, therefore, being a realist who has lived life in the real world, rather than a superficial, fantasist bubble, I tend to have a forthright, straight talking personality.

Likewise, having long since discovered the true meaning, purpose and plan for life, I am both free and secure in my identity of who I am, what I am doing and where I am doing it, no longer being that, once lost and empty soul, searching and seeking aimlessly and exhaustively through life, somehow trying to find myself and figure it all out.

I also have a very passionate heart that tends to be worn on my sleeve and one that emphasises, trust, honesty and integrity and cares about injustices.

One of my greatest passions is meeting new people and in the right company I love to chat and very much enjoy varied and interesting conversational exchanges.

In this regard, I have been a Workaway host for quite some time.

I also have a 20 year old son, who periodically lives with me, when not at university, where he studies Law.

    My interests include,

    • Road Tripping

    • Quirky Campervans

They say, ‘You only ever get out of something what you put in’.

Therefore, the motive and reasons for volunteering and the personal contribution made toward the placement will greatly determine the overall level of reward from the experience for both the host and the workaway.

Equally, greater fulfilment will be achieved by those who embrace and aspire to the vision of the project and those who have a full appreciation of the surroundings.

Overall, the aim would be to provide a safe, encouraging and relaxed environment where the volunteer can be themselves in the uniqueness and beauty of who they were lovingly created to be and to learn, develop and grow as a person during their time away whilst having fun and enjoyment in the process.

Therefore, it would be hoped that, in a positive sense, the person who leaves would not be the same person who came.

    • I myself have had a very unique, colourful and interesting life to date which has involved gaining many experiences, skills and wisdom in a wide range of areas and fields all of which the volunteer can themselves, draw and learn from.

    • The volunteer would also benefit from sightseeing both locally and further afield.

    • There is also enormous potential to learn about the rich political. historical, cultural and natural landscape of Northern Ireland.

    • Likewise, there is an opportunity to learn a variety of building and landscaping skills if so desired.

    • I can also give advice on healthy eating, nutrition, fitness routines, natural remedies and massage.

    • There is great scope to learn from my years of travel experiences around the globe.

The property is situated convenient to the North Coast of Northern Ireland, (not the Republic of Ireland) an area of outstanding natural beauty, boasting some of the most stunning and varied coastal scenery in all of Ireland.

(Lonely Planet, has recently voted this particular stretch of coastline as the top 'Number One' destination to visit, in the world, in 2018. Likewise, Northern Ireland has a far reaching reputation for the friendliness and hospitality of its people)

Being four miles from the nearest town and a mile, off road, along a private country lane, the smallholding itself is located, in a very secluded and tranquil rural setting, in the midst of the Ulster countryside.

Surrounded by nature, it is a safe haven for a wide variety of wildlife, birds and fauna and is within easy walking distance of a picturesque lake and forest trails.

The vision for the project, is quite simply to further develop the property as an intimate, sanctuary, presenting rest for weary or burdened souls and peace for those with troubled minds.

A place of Truth, Hope, Life, Restoration and New Beginnings.

    A place of authentic physical, emotional, spiritual and psychological healing and freedom from;

    • Hurts

    • Trauma

    • Fear

    • Insecurity

    • Worry

    • Anxiety

    • Depression

    • Burn Out

    • Transgression

    • Regret

    • Guilt

    • Shame

    • Unforgiveness

    • Rejection

    • Emptiness

    • Abandonment

A hiding place from the wind and a shelter from the storm.

Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth and the life so come onto me all who are weary and heavy burdened and I will give you rest. Whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. They will be like a well watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail,"

Fifteen years after, letting go of all my searching, striving and exhaustive self effort and trusting in Jesus Christ as my Lord, Saviour and personal friend, I have proven this to be an absolute and wonderful truth and overflowing source of hope, deep joy, supernatural peace and contentment, divine healing and guidance, in my own life.

To assist, I am looking an extra pair of hands to perform tasks such as cooking, grocery shopping, indoor/outdoor cleaning and tidying, maintenance, gardening and general chores.

*️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️ It is essential that any prospective workaway be a good cook and above all passionate about food and cooking (no junk food / processed food) and competent in organising meals and grocery shopping *️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️

The volunteer sometimes would have an opportunity to assist in various forms of building tasks and develop skills in these areas, if desired.

Generally, the volunteering tasks are wide ranging and varied and the host will endeavour to assign tasks that coincide with the volunteers gifts and skills base, however many will involve physical tasks so the volunteer must have a genuine interest in this type of project, which will make the difference as to whether the tasks prove to be enjoyable or a chore.

    Previous experience is not necessary, however, any prospective volunteer should be;

    • Trustworthy

    • Honest

    • Easy to get on with and not moody or oversensitive

    • Open to being challenged

    • Have a sense of humour

    • Adaptable

    • Teachable

    • Able to respond to tasks

    Have an appropriate level of;

    • Self motivation

    • Commitment

    • Cleanliness, hygiene and tidiness

    • Practical and common sense

Also, it is preferable that the volunteer has a reasonable level of conversational English and enjoys chatting!

    Sorry but....

  • Langues parlées

  • Hébergement

    • The accommodation will consist of a small, cosy, bedroom with an adjoining shower and toilet in a well equipped chalet.

    • Wifi is available, however, volunteers are discouraged from excessive internet, TV or mobile phone usage as this contradicts the theme of the venture.

As such, Wifi access will be restricted, unless essential, particularly during work time hours.

    • Kitchen and bathroom facilities will be shared.

    • Breakfast, lunch and evening meals are offered, on the premises, with a requirement for the volunteer to be flexible in their taste of foods and to enjoy healthy eating habits.

Volunteers are able to use their free time as they see fit, however, they are encouraged to use this time constructively in line with the ethos of a cultural exchange, making the most of the natural environment, beauty and sights surrounding them.

There are plenty of opportunities to sight-see and on occasions I am willing to provide guided tours as I am a born traveller and easy to persuade :-)

A notable point to mention is ‘the weather’.

Northern Ireland football fans have a chorus they sing…. We’re not Brazil, we’re Northern Ireland…. which adequately sums up our wee football team.

Likewise, it more than adequately sums up our weather, where it is quite common to have four seasons weather in one day.

It is notoriously unpredictable, changeable and usually involves rain.

The only solution is to put on a coat, wrap up and get on with it and try to accept the inclement weather as being an integral part of the countries unique beauty that provides us with our lush greenery, waterfalls and lakes, amazing rainbows and spectacular sunsets.

So if you’re looking endless blue skies and sunshine, remember….. We’re not Brazil, we’re Northern Ireland…. try there instead.

Access to and from the property is solely reliant upon a vehicle, however, I am generally at hand to transport volunteers to where they need to go.

(There is no option for volunteers to avail of onsite vehicles for their own use)

    Bicycles are also available.

Accessibility to rail and bus networks are available in town, approximately four miles away.

The townland where the property is situated lies at the foot of a flat topped hill, once the site of an ancient fort, of one of the great ancient kings of Ireland dating back to 400AD, where it is speculated that Saint Patrick was imprisoned as a young boy.

Although not particularly high the hill commands spectacular views towards both the sea and overlooking the River Bann estuary, where the very first Viking and Norsemen invaders arrived in the 8th century.

Five miles away also lies Mountsandel Fort, the earliest known settlement in the whole of Ireland, reportedly dating back several thousand years.

The immediate surroundings are also well known for the exploits of a notorious, early 1800’s highwayman, who lived in the area with an impressive sculpture depicting the robber sited nearby.

The ‘Giant's Causeway’, a famous UNESCO World Heritage Site, renowned for its polygonal columns of layered basalt, is within a short driving distance.

Near to here is the famous Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge and Bushmills Distillery, the oldest whiskey distillery in the world.

The whole region is steeped in history, myth and legend and dotted with ancient castle ruins and other intriguing sights, many of which have formed the backdrop for much of the filming of the hit television series, ‘Game of Thrones’ including the 'Dark Hedges' trees.

The immediate area is also famed for its world class golf courses with some of the current top golfers in the world coming from the locality.

In May of each year the area hosts the world famous North West 200, motorcycle road race similar to the Isle of Man TT.

Slightly further afield are the two main Northern Ireland cities of Belfast and Londonderry, both brimming with a rich cultural and political heritage.

Most famously Belfast, hometown of renowned author CS Lewis, (Chronicles of Narnia) is known for being where the ill-fated ‘Titanic’ cruise liner was designed and built and currently hosts an impressive visitor and exhibition centre to its memory.

Belfast was also home to the DeLorean factory that produced the steel clad DeLorean DMC motor cars, popularly known as the vehicle used in the film 'Back to the Future'
