Description
(Small holding) on the Isle of Great Bernera, Connected by a bridge to the Isle of Lewis on the Western Isles. A very beautiful part of the world but wet, windy and wild.
We have 11 sheep, 2 Angora goats and 2 pet Highland cows.
In May we cut peats, June lift and stack them. There is animal work, digging ditches, working at the peats, helping at shearing, digging up rushes, gathering seaweed, helping fencing, possibly re-thatching this year etc, mostly all hard physical work. So please be prepared for that, if you wish to come. However, there are outside painting jobs sometimes, which are not so hard work!
In exchange is a magnificent location on the sea, in peace and quiet, your own room. (There are 2 rooms, one double and a single.
A shower, clothes washed for you and all (vegetarian) meals, rare boat trips, 2 free days a week, limited Wi-Fi (due to our location on an island). Jollies to traditional music nights, visits to local SSSI's and joining in with the family activities. There is abundant bird life including Eagles, mergansers and rapters. Astonishing stone circles all around the sea loch in which is situated the isle of Bernera.
We don’t take people all year round because of the severe weather conditions in November, December, January, February, and are mostly too busy in July and August. But are always interested to meet different folk and prefer a 2 week stay. Thank you.Types d'aide et opportunités d'apprendre

We need independent folk to come and help with heavy croft work for about 5 hours a day, with 2 days off a week.

There is abundant bird life including Eagles, mergansers and rapters. Astonishing stone circles and Norse mills all around the sea loch in which is situated the isle of Bernera, an Iron age house on a nearby beach and an excellent museum in the community center. These can be easily accessed as there is a very good bus service.
We hope that helpers will be willing and able to work occasionally on their own and to be part of our family while they are with us.Informations complémentaires

We would be very glad to have her unassuming and gentle presence here any time.
She was very good with animals and very easy to please, not at all fussy about her food, etc.
A good worker and we were sad when she went, I felt like she was a daughter for me.
