  Description

  ​Hi! We are Brandy and Kyle, and we live in a wild, private little slice of the Tasman region. Hidden away in a pine forest, our property is 40 hectares of steep hill country.
  ​Close to the house, we have our little homestead-lite, featuring vegetable gardens, an orchard, a tunnel house, berry cages, and chickens that provide us with delicious food year-round. This is not a commercial property and the food we grow is for our own consumption. I use a pragmatic organic approach to grow our produce, focusing on soil biology and utilising what is already abundant on the land for our soil inputs. Further out from the house, our wider focus turns toward conservation and facilitating native forest regrowth. As a helper here, you will get to experience two different sides of land management: gardening using organic practices, and large-scale conservation forestry on the hills. If you are interested in organic growing practices, self-sufficiency, or native New Zealand ecology, this is the place for you.
  
  ​We love good food, good wine and good conversations. We enjoy getting to know our helpers, finding out where your strengths and interests lie, and matching you with tasks you'll genuinely enjoy.

  Our favorite part of cultural exchange is hearing about your adventures and meeting friends from all over the world. Kyle is a great cook and he goes all out on dinners, with flavorful meals and beverages, and that's when we really get to know our helpers. During the day, Brandy is happy to share everything she's learned in 7 years working the land. Kyle is also quite knowledgeable on networks, solar system set-up, and all things technical.

  Aide

  ​Because our property ranges from delicate garden beds to steep hill country, the tasks are varied and active. We look for self-motivated people who love the outdoors and have a practical, can-do attitude. Often I'll be working with you but if you feel comfortable helping solo there is plenty of opportunity for that as well.
  
  Tasks can include invasive weed clearing, creating compost piles, tidying up, light painting, mowing, watering, weed-eating, mulching, cleaning chicken coop, helping in the tunnel house, planting, tasks with tools, brewing organic fertilisers, and more.

  Hébergement

  We have a separate private little guesthouse for your exclusive use, with bathroom and kitchenette. There is 1 queen size bed so best for single person, a couple, or friends who don't mind sharing a bed. We cook big shared dinners and can provide eggs and produce from the garden for your use, as well as leftovers from dinners, but my preference is for you to be responsible for your own breakfasts and lunches, i.e bring along your favourite staples. To reflect this, helpers will not be asked to help more than 20 hours per week.
