Description
We are Alcesti, George, and our 1.5-year-old daughter Semele. Since September, we’ve been living in Sparta, on the beautiful Peloponnese peninsula in Greece. We moved here because of our jobs — we are both teachers. Alcesti teaches theatre to primary school children, and George teaches computer science to high school students. We both love our subjects deeply and, despite the challenges of the often rigid public education system in Greece, we continue to work in public schools because we believe that education should be free and accessible to everyone. We also feel that if people like us, who have a different and more creative approach to learning, don’t stay and try to make a change from within, then who will?
We chose our apartment for its stunning view of Mount Taygetos, which we can admire every day from our balcony! Our home is surrounded by wonderful nature — within a short distance, you can either reach some of the most beautiful beaches at the tip of the peninsula or go hiking in the Taygetos mountains.
We love living close to nature and sharing our space with kind, open-minded people from around the world.

Echange culturel et opportunités d'apprendre
We’re part of community 29–31, a local cultural space in Sparta that has a long history in the community. For some years, the place was quiet — almost forgotten — but now it’s slowly coming back to life. Step by step, we’re giving it a new form, reopening it to the public, and filling it again with art, music, cinema, and ideas.
Our vision is to make this place a meeting point for creativity and exchange, where locals and travelers can connect, share their passions, and imagine new projects together. We’re also starting a small film club, which we hope will become a regular gathering for people who love cinema and storytelling.
We would love to welcome Workawayers who are open-minded, creative, and curious, and who want to contribute their own ideas and energy to this process of renewal — whether through art, organization, communication, or simply being part of the daily rhythm of this evolving space.

Aide
We are looking for a friendly and responsible Workawayer who can help us with our daughter Semeli while we are at work. She’s a curious, playful, and happy little one who loves music, outdoor walks, and discovering new things. There’s always someone from the family around throughout the day, so the childcare is light, shared, and never something you’d be handling entirely on your own.
In exchange for your help, we offer a comfortable stay, delicious home-cooked meals, and the chance to experience the true local lifestyle in Sparta, surrounded by history, nature, and warm hospitality. We’d be happy to welcome you into our family and share peaceful moments, good conversations, and the beauty of everyday life in Greece.

Hébergement
Because we unfortunately don’t have a spare room in our own apartment, your accommodation will be in George’s family home, where we go every day. It is a private room in an apartment located just above the cultural space Μεταξουργείον 29–31, which is also George’s workspace. The apartment is simple but with everything you need for a comfortable stay.
George works there on his computer everyday and his mother and sister (Semeli’s grandmother and aunt) live there as well. They are warm, easygoing, and always around, so you will never feel isolated or left without support. Everything in Sparta is very close, so moving between our apartment and the family home is simple (10min walk). We can also provide a bicycle so you can easily move around Sparta and explore the nearby area.
You’ll have access to free Wi-Fi, and we provide food as part of the exchange.
Even though you won’t be sleeping in our apartment, we will spend a lot of time together — sharing meals, daily routines, conversations, and family moments at the family home. This creates a natural and meaningful cultural exchange and an authentic experience of Greek everyday life.
Autres infos...
Alcesti is the mountain spirit of our family! She’s a member of the Hiking Club of Sparta and spends almost every Sunday exploring the beautiful trails of Mount Taygetos. During the week, she enjoys yoga in a really cool spot here in Sparta — but most of all, she’s a full-time mother, which might just be the most demanding (and rewarding!) job of all.
George is the quieter, more introverted soul of the family. He’s a researcher, working on his PhD whenever he can find a peaceful moment. He also loves books and takes part in the reading club at Μεταξουργείον 29–31, which he attends every Thursday together with our little one, Semele.
Together, we balance our days between work, family life, nature, and creativity — and we’re always happy to welcome people who want to share ideas, stories, and good company.
