Shalom! We are two young guys from Italy and the last summer we spent two weeks with Adi, Oren, Shaya and Matya. We arrived to Portugal unaware of the experience that we were about to live. As soon as we got to Sao Luis, we were welcomed by Oren and his family. The place was peaceful and surrounded by stunning nature. Few people lived there, but
… read more they created a really beautiful community : coming from many different countries, they help each other in everyday life and they are taking back to life Sao Luis countryside. Talking and spending time with them was a really beautiful moment of exchange, that enriched our experience so much. Expecially when we did hitchhiking to go to the beach: it was really funny and we always found lovely people that brought us everywhere.
Our main task was to help Oren in his everyday work, that consisted mainly in permaculture. Oren has a lot of knowledge in this field and we were lucky to learn from him. The work was great and we were helped by Matya and Shaya, that always stayed with us, making fun, giving us fresh fruit and vegetables from the garden and teaching us some Hebrew.
These kids were amazing: really smart, polite, curious about us and in love with the place were they live. As regards Adi and Oren, we are really thankful to them for the time we spent together. Always positive and smiling, they taught us a lot of things about Portugal, Israel and life. We learnt with them a new way of living that we weren't used to see here in Brescia, where we live. They are really connected with nature and always greatful for the things they have. It was a real life lesson all the time spent together and we are sure we will never forget this wonderful experience.
We hope to come back to Sao Luis soon, to see them and the awesome developing reality that they are building.

We had such a fantastic time! Right from the start, we were warmly welcomed as members of family, and it was a privilege and an honour to be allowed into your hardworking lives, trusted so completely, and being allowed to take part in your lifestyle, which is so different from our usual life in the big city.
Matya and Shaya are absolutely

We were living very comfortably in the caravan and big tent. Thanks for allowing our dog Scooby to join us - apart from the local guard dogs occasionally barking in the distance at night, he absolutely loved the place: plenty of space to run around freely, and loads of loving attention - and treats - from Shaya and Matya.
Andrew enjoyed working with Oren in the garden and cob building the chicken coop from scratch to finish. Only regret was having to leave before chickens actually moved in!
Andrew also enjoyed early morning birdwatching, and hearing the owls hooting every night. And the blessed silence at night in the outdoor kitchen, with cicadas' song as the only sound, and the stars and moon shining so clearly.
Dorte enjoyed cooking lunches, with the children as capable and willing helpers. Oren's bread is absolutely fantastic, as are Adi's banana pancakes and other treats and dishes.
Dorte loved playing educational games with the kids, and showing them how to get Scooby to perform tricks - and loads of other varied tasks, always with room for initiative and personal choice.
Adi, I hope our discussions about unschooling, and suggestions for curriculum and annual report structure will prove helpful, and that you manage to strike a balance between following the children's interests and natural inclinations, and avoiding major gaps in their learning.
Thanks for all the helpful local advice and suggestions for where to go etc - we particularly loved the beautiful coastal walks.
Your family will be forever in our hearts. All the best!
we had such a wonderful time with Andrew and Dorte!
Andrew was working fiscally with all his heart .
He was very thorough and was completely reliable with all the task we had to do and his contribution to us was more then many younger volunteers we had over.
Dorte became our care taker :)
She had the motivation to make and keep everything clean

we truly feel we received new members of family to our life
from our experience ,any one that will host them will be very lucky, they will receive loving people with best intention to contribute and make them-self helpful .

Being so connected to the mother nature for two weeks was a beautiful experience! Oren is an amazing host, he was always willing to explain my task and showed me how to use the working tools in a most efficient way. We worked with natural materials such as cane trees, mud, sand, straw etc. Beside that Oren is a fantastic cook and I loved listening

We had a wonderful experience. We stayed about two months. Oren, Adi, Shaya and Matya welcomed us lovely and made us feel home. Overall, we felt that our hosts are doing great by supplying and taking care of us. May it be an interesting talk or some lesions to learn in the garden, it occurred to me that they give their very lovely best to help us
… read more get along with the new environment.
Our tasks were cooking, general cleaning (as much as you can, it’s an outdoor space :D), playing with the kids, taking care of the garden and organizing. We stayed in the camper for this time, and it was cozy and comfortable for us. We had a plenty of space outdoors. Sometimes it was tricky for us to adjust with the weather since you have no house or something. Cooking in the outside kitchen was an adventure for me. Being with the weather and wind. Being aware of the flames going out because of the wind. But it was kinda fun, I took it with ease.
Since I have some physical problems with my back, Oren and Adi were really accommodating. I learned a lot (again) about taking a step back, to feel and to find my balance. To say if something is enough (also for my back). To listen to my true self and to be honest.
I had life changing talks with Adi. We often had the same vibe, and we could talk about everything. And the cookies and cakes she makes.. oh wow! Oren also has a lot of life experience and is happy to share them! You can really feel that they are teachers. Not only from the profession site, but from the life site.
Shaya and Matya are also amazing humans. They are kind, energetic and curious. We had a lot of fun discovering the surrounds new, with my macro lens or with filming. We collected lots of trash together. We are some awesome trash hunters!
I was happy to see an alternative school system. I also learned a lot about this from Adi and Oren. It changed my perspective of education.
Overall, I could learn much and we had some fun time together.
Thank you for everything, you have a special place in our heart.
