Description
We are Robert, Chloe, Moise (2 yrs), and Sybil (baby) - a young Indigenous family living off grid in northern Alberta/Northwest Territories. Also part of the family is a sweet old pup named Zea. We are living on the traditional territories of our ancestors in Wood Buffalo National Park, 170 km from Fort Smith Northwest Territories which is our closest road access. As a young family, extra help and eyes and ears are much needed and appreciated! We are looking for guests that are good with children, and who are seeking Indigenous cultural experiences. We live in a vast wilderness area where there is constant wildlife interaction, adventures on ATV, skidoo, and boat, and tranquility away from civilization.
We are an Indigenous Protected and Conserved Area Innovation Center, doing work to reimagine life on the Land as a young family in the world today. We specialize in Indigenous systems thinking (especially in education and conservation) and cultural revitalization. We have a small family business - for the Land consulting and services, where we work to establish and maintain our local economies. - ask us for our website link if you want to see it

Echange culturel et opportunités d'apprendre
We are highly skilled in bush craft, and carry out different activities based on the time of year. Spring is a bountiful season of harvest - ducks, geese, beavers, and muskrats. Summer is for fishing, boating, gardening, construction, and working on moose hides. Fall is moose hunting season as well as ducks, geese, beavers, and harvesting berries and medicines. In the winter we trap furbearers. We cut wood for our fires, snowmobile, and sew. We are on the Land every day, cooking wild food, travelling on ice and water, learning and observing what is around us.
We are open and happy to be part of a cultural exchange and look forward to learning from others as well. :) Since we are a unique and off grid experience, we recognize we won't be a fit for everyone. We are willing to work with guests beforehand to tailor the experience as we can, to make it a benefit for both parties.

Aide
Every day, we maintain our home, property, and take care our children. We also carry out many on the Land cultural activities depending on the season. Since having two young children, tasks have slowed down quite a bit and we aren't as productive as we used to be! We are looking for help (ideally a couple) to support our daily tasks. This is flexible, but could look like a few hours of support with the children per day, help inside the house cooking and cleaning, and/or support doing outside chores and activities, depending on the skills and desires of each individual.
Our home would be a good fit for those looking for Indigenous cultural experience, good with children is non negotiable. We do harvest and process wild animals, and so guests must be comfortable with that and willing to learn.

Hébergement
Small rustic cabins are available (one room, no running water or electricity). The cabins are wood heated, clean, and comfortable. Food will be provided - guests can cook their own food (camp stove provided) or they can join us for meals. We get our groceries from town and can help meal plan ahead of time. 3 meals a day can be provided, we eat lots of wild meat and well-rounded meals.
There is also the option to do your own cooking. Barbecue, open fire, propane stove and oven are all available to use.
Our main family house is equipped with running water and solar power. This is an off-grid location that is quite isolated. Some level of understanding of off-grid/cabin living is a bonus, though not necessarily required.
