Join our family for DIY, house renovations and permaculture gardening in rural Central Portugal

  Description

  We have just bought a couple of houses and land in rural Central Portugal, on the edge of a small village. As quiet as quiet can be.
  
  Depending on who we connect with, we’re looking for:
  
  
  🌟DIY potentials (working alongside my partner): eco plastering, painting, indoor & outdoor kitchen fitting/building, bathroom installing/compost loo building, wall & floor tiling.
  (If you have particular skills in carpentry, window/door fitting, knocking down partition walls.. great!)
  
  🌟Permaculture/Biodynamic/forest gardening
  
  🌟 Cooking
  
  🌟Ad-hoc childcare, if it flows, but this is optional and not essential. Just if it really work for my boy and your both inspired to go for a little adventure somewhere!
  
  
  You’ll be helping alongside my partner who has a lot of DIY skills, an extensive background in permaculture, and some biodynamic knowledge...
  
  You’ll be well fed, and have your own private living space, probably our camper-van which sleeps 2 adults & a child in one super-king fold-up bed comfortably. There is access to a proper outdoor bathroom. (an optional compost loo onboard the van too)
  
  Or a bell tent in the garden, or the loft space in the main house where we live. (The loft is best suited to someone who is ok with hearing an expressive toddler)
  
  We’re good with boundaries and being clear on what the exchange will look like.
  We like to tidy up after ourselves and keep good standards of cleanliness.
  
  Happy to keep it as a fair exchange or increase the load/skills and pay a fair wage too.
  
  We would prefer people who want more long-term stays, 3-4 weeks minimum. We also want to connect with those we host and create friendships! It's not just about working. It's about connecting and sharing.
  
  On a more personal note, Mendel & I as people are self-reflective, mellow, and lean towards a spiritual life. We both follow a Sufi path (Ruhaniat).
  Our toddler is full of life and loves singing, making music, collecting stones for his pockets, and playing with water. Simple joys.
  We try our best to practice respectful and conscious parenting with him, without punishments. (That doesn’t mean without boundaries..)
  He keeps us on our toes and blows our minds every day watching him grow.
  
  Mendel also co-owns a fermented foods business based in England. (Loving Foods)
  
  We eat clean (currently following an Auto Immune Protocol) and don’t drink alcohol or smoke. (We don’t mind this being around, as long as it’s mindfully done)
  
  More than happy to get in other foods that suit your diets too, of course. We just have to be super strict with what we eat ourselves.

  We live in a beautiful quiet area in Central Portugal, with a growing international community in surrounding villages and towns. We are seeking to have people with us who can really join our family for the duration of their stay. Hands on with the help exchange but also to share life with us, cooking, stories over tea, explore the beautiful location, meet the local community. We want plenty of joy & love! Our gorgeous toddler can take the lead in that one easily!

  We both speak fluent English as our native tongues (our boy's main language is English, some Hebrew), Mendel speaks conversational Hebrew and to our boy. We want to integrate more Portuguese into our everyday lives, we’re learning slowly!

  Separate private space (likely our well built out campervan), or a bell tent, or the attic space in our house.

  We are quite remote so to get to any shops or cafes a vehicle is needed. We are on a mountain.
  We do make a few trips out a week, so we can try to sync up with all of our needs for trips out.
  
  The house is within a small village, next to some woodland, and a short drive to some beautiful river beaches.
  
  Also happy to have local-ish day trips to show you the stunning natural places surrounding us.
