I stayed with Cris and her family for 3 weeks picking hazelnuts at the end of the season (Oct 1 to 20) - a very different and challenging, yet peaceful type of workaway for me. … read more was lucky to have another workaway to share the time with), as it can get isolating, even though the beautiful town of Taormina is a bus away. Maybe it was just the timing, but prepare to buy some more things for lunches and breakfasts as sometimes the house isn't always stocked! And Stefano and Cris are very busy folks, so have plans, means and finances if you hope to explore Sicily fully. Sveva and Matteo are in late primary and highschool now, so a bit has changed on the profile—but they are beautiful, funny and curious friends and card game champs! Nonetheless thankyou hosting at short notice, for the beautiful meals Stefano (when there are guests) and the insight into the nature of Etna, Cris.

We stayed with Cristina and Stefano for 20 days and it was an amazing experience for our first WorkAway stay. Their Agriturismo was very busy during this period so our work varied depending on where we were needed, but was never too much to handle. Meals were provided and cooked amazingly by Stefano. … read more easy to work and communicate with - we are English speaking and we're able to communicate very well. In the free time, they took us on trips to the beach, visits to Catania, Siracusa and surrounding villages, and explored the surrounding beauty of Mt. Etna. Their two children Mattia and Sveva are adorable and so kind as well. We had so much fun hanging out and learning from them. Thank you again Cristina, Stefano, Mattia and Sveva for everything! This was our first workaway trip with our 1,5 year old daughter and our dog. We are very lucky that we have found Christina and her family. They have their two beautiful kids and a super cute dog-Toffee, so both of our dearests had their own company. :) We stayed at the summer house, because the house on the farm was under reconstruction. We had
… read more the most amazing view from the balcony we've ever seen (including Taormina).
Chrsitina and Stéfano were very flexible with the working time. We mainly started to work around 9 and finished around 1 or 2. The harvest was at an amazing farm, there were hazelnut bushes as long as the eye can see. Porcini mushroom picking in the mornings just for fun while the dogs were running around us. We loved the job. We planned to stay for a week but we stayed for two in the end.
We could not be more thankful for the fact that they handled our situation so easily! (travelling with a baby and a dog who both had special needs) Especially that when we arrived there, their little baby was only 6 weeks old, the harvesting machine broke down in the middle of the season, ... so we can imagine, it couldn't be the most relaxed period of their lives..and still had time to take care of us, be kind with us and be happy about having us in their house! We reeeally appreciate it!!!
We traveled by car, so we could be totally free, but Christina and Stefano were still very open to take us anywhere. Of course, in Sicily it's almost impossible to travel without a car or a scooter. Thank You for showing us the real Sicily! Thank You for the great talks at the dinner table! Give a hug to Sveva and Matia from us! Wish You the bests and thank You for everything!

… read more our travels. The house was in a unique and tranquil setting with spectacular sunrises/sets, incredible starry nights, views of Mt Etna on one side and the ocean on the other. Stefano's cooking is with simple and local ingredients that make fantastic flavours, and drawing water from the well for cooking and washing takes you back to the old country. Being up the mountain can get cold at night so was great to have our sleeping bags! Thank you for a fantastic time, we couldn't recommend more! Photos to come soon... we stayed nearly 2 weeks with cristina, stefano and their son matia and it was a great experience. in the morning we helped with the harvest of the hazlenuts (ca. 4 hours), the afternoon was off. we helped in the household (making dishes, filling up the outside solar shower, etc). stefano is a great cook and we enjoyed his meals. on the weekends
… read more we made some trips together (beach, taormina, catania). on the farm it's quiet and a simple life but we enjoyed it very much. cristina and stefano are great opend minded people and we felt very welcome on their farm in sant alfio.
