He was very comfortable around this older woman with a strong personality. I found myself laughing and actually enjoying spending time with him. He is polite, has good manners and is not a self absorbed young person (a rare site these days!) If I met his parents I would like to congratulate them on raising a proper young man.
I can’t say enough good things, I was very happy I took a chance on him, when I almost did not.
After over 20 workaways he has one of the highest recommendations I can give!

She showed me around Coachella Valley for 2 days

It’s never easier when complete strangers move in together, it’s kind of like that “ married at first site” TV show. You learn a lot about other people and very quickly,
I found her unique, she takes charge and wants to learn things quickly, yet she comes off initially shy and reserved.
I would definitely recommend her as a trustworthy person. I respected her belief in honesty even when you’re in a tough situations. I really think she is a good example of what a workaway should be.

This is my second workaway and it is truly an eye opening experience! … read more could work with other rescue animals from the shelter but I guess they weren't taking care of any during my time there. Then again it was all good but there are already 6 pets in the house.
The work isn't really hard. 4 hours a day for 5 days and you get two days off. They would respect my off working hours and I can do whatever I want outside the 4 hours I am required. Cathy would ask me when I would like to have my off so I could go off exploring! It would sometimes depend which days they need more help with so I can have my off days on other days they don't need much help with. Regardless of anything, I just have to communicate with them and tell them all that I would like to see and they would offer good suggestions of how I could go about it while still clocking that 4 hours a day for 5 out of 7 days. I spent one of my off day at the living desert zoo and another just self exploring the area.
Cathay always gives a tour of the Coachella valley area which is really nice of her to show the workaway around. Since I didn't have a car to explore, this is really great to see places and mark it so that I could visit on a separate occasion. Also, if its within their means and the timing works, they could drop you off at places to take the bus or slightly further if they are also heading out as well. I would say one really need a car to explore the Coachella valley and I wish I would rent one to explore further, like going to the Joshua Tree National park.
FYI* Make sure to visit the village fest that happens to every thursday in downtown palm spring and have one dollar bills prepared so you can use it for the bus!
The most important thing I can say is to communicate and respect the rules and what you are being asked to do. Everyone has a way of doing things so just follow it and you will have an awesome time! I recomande to do this warkaway if you have lived AT LEAST WITH AN ANIMAL, because everything in the house is about dogs. … read more several times to ask me if she had any questions, but she rarely did. I also told her she did not have to rush because it leads to mistakes, but that did not work . I could have become more forceful about my expectations, but I decided not to do it. I do not think this is a reflection of Kimberly who is still young. To me it is a reflection of her age. I think she is a great person and I don’t have anything bad to say about my experience with her, I would definitely recommend her for any workaway. My husband and I both agree that we need to higher the age we accept people here. I really think we need people who have more maturity then a lot of the young people who come to visit. The older people who come always take the tasks more seriously and not just something they have to do in order to stay here free. We do not think there are any issues with Kimberly. Our expectations are very high for the work we assign and we are not getting people to do the kind of job we expect unless they are older. However, we are the ones who have to screen better as I really liked Kimberly and think she will do very well in any field she pursues. But, I also remember how I felt and thought at 21 as well.

In the first two weeks I helped with feeding new born puppies, they were so cute and innocent ;) They changed every day. The puppies pooped a lot so cleaning their cage was also a part of the job.
They have 3 older dogs who are so friendly and love a cuddle.
If you love animals, this is the perfect job for you. There were also some small chores around the house but you had a lot of time off during the rest of the day.
The other two weeks, I pet-sitted the older dogs and cats when Cathy and Leon went on a holiday. The animals were so loving and came to you for attention & food (obviously).
It was a really nice experience and I recommend staying with Catherine and Leon (and Mandy, Sammy, Sweetie Pie & the 2 cats).

We had a very enriching experience with Catherine and Leon. They live in the Coachella Valley which is literally an oasis in the middle of the desert and that is exactly the feeling they surrounded us with for the whole period.

We have seen the best of places!!She was a wonderful and comprehensive guide and we have felt protected under her care and enriched by her knowledge and stength. I remember the moment when we stayed at a hotel and the guy at the reception desk thought she was our mum. It felt cozy and warm.
We also had a one day trip to L.A. with both Cathy and Leon for Leon's medical appointment. We had a meaningful day seeing doctors and hope for life.
We have learned many new things as well. First about the Unites States, its values and cultural differences across the states. Cathy and Leon love to tell stories and they are so harmonised with each other. They made us feel we have seen for ourselves all the places they have magnets from on the their fridge. Amazing!
We also have learned how to relate to animals at a level full of care and love. Ana had already her experience with animals but I had a lot less so I felt growing on me a protective loving feeling toward the kittens and puppies we sheltered. In the end we witnessed with Cathy the adoption process and it was a moment full of uplifting vibes of new hopes and new homes.
There is however some sadness to the story. After we left Catherine accused us of having been too invasive and having broken a meaninful crystal. This brought us a lot of pain especially because it was so unexpected. We meant the best and it would have been better if we had been told when we did something wrong. I realise we might have seemed invasive - we love clean organised stuff and we began doing that a little bit thinking she would love it or at least be neutral to it. Once our aunt came to our house and she painted the walls and organised everything. We praised her!
I think we could have communicated better and we are sorry for our limits too.
Also I would have loved the studying activity to be more relevant. Basically the work involved taking care of the dogs and cats and the temporarely sheltered animals. As a Medical student and a tutor I feel that I could have brought more value in an activity like the one mentioned in the profile - that is helping Cathy study for her test as a doctor.

These sisters were very sweet, charming and intelligent young ladies and we really enjoyed having them. Their enthusiasm for life was infectious and they were willing to take chances and learn and try new things. The one stressful issue that occurred could possibly be chalked up to cultural difference. We have noticed through a couple European visitors that “ make yourself at home” has a different meaning there them here. I feel Americans are more reserved about how they conduct themselves while visiting strangers.
The girls used many items without asking, even though I had purchased things especially for them. They helped themselves through our closets for things they preferred over what we gave them to use. They also rearranged furniture in the room they stayed in and ended up breaking a very sentimental item in the process. If they would have only asked, we would have found a way to assist them, other then that things went very well.
It was clear these young ladies were raised in loving and supportive environments and will fulfill their career ambitions and be very successful in life. We were both impressed with their warmth and strength of character.

During my stay I took care of 5 foster puppies and I totally loved my work. I already miss my puppies.
When I arrived I was kind of disappointed because I expected more from the accommodation based on the description. The bathroom is shared and also used by the animals (the cat litter for example is in the shower) so you have to take your shower in the master bathroom. I wouldn’t call the bedroom small but due to a lot of stuff in there you almost can‘t move. Behind the air mattress (no bed) is a wardrobe they need access to at least once a day.

We helped taking care of four puppies who are temporary being fostered by them. Puppies are just adorable, so the works we did were not difficult.
The room we stayed in was not very very spacious, but Catherine informed us about the room before we decided to go there, so we had no problem.
They allowed us to use their kitchen whenever we like.
We really enjoyed staying with them. Even though it was a short stay, being with people who have different cultures is extremely great experience, and they gave us this opportunity.
We are very grateful to them.

I think our cultures and lives are very different but I think this is what workaway is about, his English was good and her’s was OK but she spent the entire time learning and trying.
I had them mainly taking care of 4 mixed breed/ German Shepard puppies and although living in a house full of animals and all the stuff the goes with them ( I have three dogs two cats and a foster kitten) was very new to them they went out of there way to jump in and help and really did a good job following directions and taking care of them.
I highly recommend them, great experience!! I love how this brings the world closer together!

She was always ready to help me if I needed something or to go somewhere. Cathy and her husband love their animals and in more they take care of kittens and puppies which come from animal shelter. Their dogs and cats are all so very cute and I love them a lot, particularly my sweet and very smart Banbang. I helped them to take care of their animals and the kittens with great pleasure. … read more time of my stay, they were fostering 4 puppies that became my charge. There are always animals in their house, so being comfortable with dogs and cats is a must.
They allowed me a lot of freedom to explore the area and to come and go as I pleased. I think I averaged around 4-5 hours a day, spread out over the entire day.
