  • Description

    We are a non-profit intentional community .
It is the home of some 11 adults and 6 children who live, work and have fun together. We live together because by sharing and co-operating, we manage to live more lightly on the land and our lives are enriched in many ways.

We are privileged to live in a large manor house in rural Devon with 6 acres of land, historic walled gardens and orchards and a paddock which is used for camping. We grow as much of our own food as we can in the walled gardens, outside and indoor growing space, including two poly-tunnels and a greenhouse. We also keep chickens and bees.

Everything we do is developed with an awareness of the impact of our work and lives on the environment. We recycle as much waste as we can and strive to reduce our consumption of energy. We grow our own vegetables and fruit organically. We have compost toilets which we encourage visitors to use, and we process our sewage with a reed bed sewage treatment system.
We have a biomass boiler and wood burning stoves for heating, as well as a wind turbine and solar panels.

We regularly host volunteers to help us and to be able to share our lovely space, and to share skills and experiences and to enable people to see what living in a community is like. We love the new energy that volunteers bring and we value what they contribute and the cultural exchange.

    Breaking News!!
The Community Coop is currently seeking two self-motivated, energetic volunteers to share community life with us for a period of three months.
A couple or close friends would be ideal as the accommodation will be in a shared room.
We can offer a community experience in a beautiful rural setting in the South-West UK to :-
    • Learn new skills
    • Develop on-going projects
    • Help co-ordinate the Spring Volunteer Programme with community members
    • Immerse yourself in the English language
    • Live within a community coop
We are specifically looking for volunteers with skills and experience of organic gardening, making compost and pruning. Other work may include processing firewood, painting and decorating, carpentry. The role would also include other shared community duties such as cooking and housework.

You will have a link person in the community and we will provide supervision and support,
although we would expect you to be self - motivated and directed on a daily basis.
We are offering free board and accommodation in return for 20 hours work a week and
will provide you with a reference at the end of the stay detailing your experience, skills
learnt and your role as a volunteer co-ordinator.
