Description
We are Sabine and Dennis, a retired German and English couple who live in Salobreña with our 2 cats and two small rescue dogs. We moved to Spain over 20 Years ago and have been very happy here.
Sadly Dennis developed dementia a few years ago and his health has slowly deteriorated, I have until recently been providing all his needs, Unfortunately he had a set back a while ago and has , at times,difficulties to get up or walk by himself and needs more physical support, which means I have contracted nurses/carers to help me with his personal needs. He can’t be left unattended and somebody has to stay with him and keep him company when I have to leave for appointments etc. Dennis still enjoys a range of company, and I’ve noticed he is more settled when there is a variety of companions who can either talk with him, watch television , listen to music or read to him.

We live in a beautiful area of Spain, surrounded by natural beauty and the sea (1.5 km from a beach) We are in a quiet neighbourhood, but a short drive to 2 lovely towns.
Both our nearest towns (Salobreña and Almuñécar) have all the usual facilities plus 2 beautiful old towns. We are surrounded by countryside with beautiful walks, plus KM’s of beaches. There is a bus service from our urbanisation to both Salobreña and Almuñécar but not very frequent .
Aide
I am looking for some help with my husband Dennis who has Dementia. His mobility has decreased recently and we tend to stay at home rather than going out. He is sometimes lucid, although it is becoming less and less. He enjoys company especially as he doesn't like to go out as much as he used to. He likes to watch a bit of television, especially old programs he remembers from years ago. He is able to feed himself but needs a bit of assistance now and again. I do need some help with his personal care because of his diminished mobility but have professional help from nurses and carers on a daily basis plus neighbours who also help when required.
I would like someone who can stay at home with him so I can attend appointments etc. I anticipate this taking up maximum of 10 to 15 hours per week. The other hours helping around the house and garden and possibly preparing meals.
The workaway doesn’t need to have care experience in particular, but someone who is confident, compassionate, kind and with good common sense.
As the kitchen is a shared space it’s important that you are clean and tidy without prompting.
We would do the shopping together and usually eat together but at times I may ask you to prepare meals . You are responsible for any snacks and fizzy drinks etc.
I or one of the carers would stay with you and Dennis until you and I feel confident to stay with him on your own, which would only be for a short time, maximum a couple of hours at a time and not on a daily basis.

Hébergement
The accommodation I offer is on the ground floor, with private double bedroom, lounge/single bedroom and bathroom. With shared use of the kitchen. I have an additional room with toilet and outside shower and seperate entrance from the garden.

We have a tennis court on our urbanisation which can be used all year and a community swimming pool which is open from June to mid September, it's only a 10 minutes walk to the nearest beach.
