We are a village school located 1.5hrs from Chiang Mai city in northern Thailand. The village is Karen hill tribe, an ethnic minority with their own unique culture, customs and language. They are humble, kind and welcoming. Most of the villagers grow rice and crops. The school is located in remote countryside, surrounded by lush forests and beautiful scenery. We have about 300 students from ages 5-16 years old. Their first language is Karen, and the school teaches in Thai.

We need volunteers to teach English at the village school, and to help the villagers outside of school time with their English. The village is Karen hill tribe (an ethnic minority in northern Thailand). It's a fantastic opportunity to have a cultural immersion experience here, and just by spending time and forging friendships with the villagers, they will learn a lot of English from you. We hope that with better English, this will improve future prospects and employment opportunities for them. It will also help them to become hosts for tourists, which would be great supplemental income for them. No teaching experience is needed , and you can devise your own curriculum. The students need help with oral everyday English, so the lessons can be informal.
A simple private room at the school, mattress and bedding will be provided. 3 meals a day at the school will also be provided.
