DUE TO COVID RESTRICTIONS AND CONCERNS WE ARE CURRENTLY LOOKING ONLY FOR VOLUNTEERS ABLE TO COMMIT TO A STAY OF 3 MONTHS OR LONGER. The volunteer must be able to teach Intermediate English and will also be required to commit some hours daily to our office, which works with the local community. Help is required with fundraising for the school, as well as report writing/proofreading for community projects.
25 years and older only please.

All volunteers must be able to teach English, but we also welcome them to help in other ways, such as improving the school (by gardening painting, decorating, and building), and helping with fundraising campaigns.

The school is in Kracheh Province, about 5 hours drive north of Phnom Penh and is about 10 minutes from Kratie town and the Mekong River. The school's owner and director, Mr. Yuth, has lived in this area for most of his life. Over time he has watched children grow up with little or no English, and therefore, poor job prospects. He wanted to change this and offer the children of Kratie Province a better future. In January 2016, Mr. Yuth opened the School, built a house for the volunteers, and started lessons for underprivileged children from surrounding villages.

In Cambodia, the economy is mainly based on tourism and agriculture. However, in the public schools of Kratie, students aren't taught much English. Mr Yuth's goal is to enable them to learn English, and gain some basic IT skills, which will give them better job prospects and a brighter future.

The school receives no financial support from the Government and instead relies solely on donations for improvements and volunteers for teaching.

Aside from the English school, Mr. Yuth heads an NGO that works closely with vulnerable groups, farmers, women, and children by implementing sustainable projects to improve their living conditions. This is a long-established organization which has been in operation since 1993. Volunteers might also be involved with work for this project as different needs arise.

A stay in Kratie is an opportunity to experience rural Cambodia, as few tourists ever will.

In our village, there are no tourists. The local people are very welcoming, ready with smiles and "hellos", and the local children are always keen to practice their English with volunteers.

Volunteers will be living in the community, seeing 'real Cambodia', and learning how the locals really live - visiting the local market, eating local food and interacting with local people. Sometimes, there are opportunities to attend local activities such as Karaoke nights, and ceremonies such as weddings, birthday parties or the opening of a new house.
In this way, volunteers have the chance to learn about the way of life in this rural area of Cambodia.

During volunteer's free time and on the weekends, Kratie is a lovely town to explore!

Volunteers can visit the town, take a trip to see the river dolphins, visit Kho Trong Island (and maybe even stay a night there in a home-stay or guest house), visit Sambok Mountain and the monkeys there, discover the forest, villages or ancient temples

More information can be found by googling 'Things to do in Kratie', and 'Mekong Discovery Trail'.

Volunteers could even go further afield to see more of Cambodia...
Visit Mondulkiri or Ratanakiri- both easy to do as a weekend trip.

We are looking for volunteers, minimum age 25 years, to teach English and basic computer skills. You must have a mature attitude, and be a 'self starter'.
TEACHING ENGLISH and BASIC IT. (typically need 4 volunteers at a time):
    *️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️Minimum 3 month commitment.

Classes are held at various times throughout the day.
Each volunteer will be required to teach one class and work for a minimum of 3 hours in our office each day.

Teaching at the home-based school - Levels 1 - 7 for children and young adults, and conversation and grammar classes for adults, and at other classrooms. This is held in the early evening, after the children have attended State school.
Class sizes vary from small groups to 20+ students, ages from 5 years to young adult.
For our other classes away from our base, there are bicycles for the volunteers to use. All volunteers must be able to ride a bicycle, and fit enough to ride to our Country Class which is a 30 minute ride on dirt roads.

Teaching experience is greatly appreciated but if you are new to teaching, don't worry, a good standard of English, and enthusiasm and a commitment to help the kids are all that we require. We need volunteers who are adaptable, as numbers of students, and volunteers, fluctuate throughout the year.

Lessons can include role-playing, singing songs, conversation and other ideas you have. There is a curriculum for each level, and a monthly lesson plan for volunteers to follow. Teachers keep a record of what they've taught, and how the lesson was received by the students, every day in the appropriate level's log book so that we can monitor each student's progress.
If you have good basic computer and typing skills, our students would love to learn.
Most poor children at the school don't have access to a computer, and as we know in this day and age, IT skills are essential both in and outside the workplace. Teaching the kids basic typing skills, how to research on the internet etc, will go a long way to help their prospects in the future.
Our new Computer Room/Library is now open. We hold a computer skills class every day, as well as reading and art programs.
We appreciate volunteers who can help us with the upkeep and improvement of our school. it is always in need of repair, repainting etc.

Primarily based in the office (5 minutes from the school and volunteer house).

We are always working to increase awareness of our project and raise funds for improving the school. People with marketing/fundraising backgrounds, who can commit to at least 4 weeks, and can help with these initiatives are always welcome. Currently, we are looking to produce promotional materials, posters, and donation boxes, etc , and trying to reach out into the local community and to local businesses, such as hotels, etc, to support and promote our project.
We are also exploring ways to reach out to schools in other parts of the world for fundraising.
We are always fundraising to improve and extend the school and so give this great opportunity to more young people.

We also appreciate volunteers who can share their skills to improve our NGO staff's abilities and help our organization to reach its goals. Experts in agriculture, water sanitation, environmental tourism, climate change, health and nutrition, female empowerment and gender equality, child welfare, grant applications and funding proposals, etc, would be great for this project!

We ask our volunteers to help for a minimum of 5 hours per day from Monday to Friday. There's plenty of free time, and weekends are free to explore the area and relax.

In return, we provide accommodation in our newly built volunteer house located right above the school.
The house has three shared bedrooms, with up to 3 beds in each- Khmer style, mattresses and mosquito nets.
Shared communal areas include a bathroom, kitchen, and a large sitting area. This is a traditional Khmer style house, with some Western elements added. Plumbing is basic, and there is no hot water. The kitchen has no fridge, as is normal in Cambodia, as electricity is very expensive here so the cost of running one is too high. Ice is available to keep things cool.

We will provide 3 meals a day to all volunteers at a cost of US$ 5.00 per day :
Western breakfast, Khmer style lunch and dinner.

There is no wifi at the house!
There are coffee shops and a hotel in the area where you can have free wifi. For onsite internet, local SIM cards are cheap and easy to use, and can be bought from Mr. Yuth's small shop located next door to the volunteer house (the shop also sells drinks and snacks, etc).

Volunteers also have free shared access to bicycles for getting to and from town. Please note that volunteers are responsible for all upkeep / repairs of bicycles. No locks are provided so you should bring your own, or they can bought cheaply at the market in Kratie.
Alternatively, volunteers can rent their own bicycle in the city for around $10-$15 per month, Motorbikes can be rented for a daily rate. Tuk-tuks are also available in the town, or can be booked through Mr Yuth.

Minivans to Kratie leave from Phnom Penh Central Market at 6 am and 11am to our house. PP vans cannot be booked in advance but we can give advice on how and where to get them.
From Siem Reap, vans can be booked. Please contact us if you would like to arrange this and further details will be provided.

If you are coming from Phnom Penh airport, you can get a tuk tuk or taxi from the airport to Central Market (Phsar Thmei) and then the minivan to Kratie from there.
