Thank you for reading our profile. We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers who want to make a commitment to our school and our students.
At this time we are also looking for volunteers to help us clear some overgrown land which is part of our school expansion project.. You must be strong, and an early riser. 1 week minimum commitment. No teaching required. 5 hours work each day. Or you can help with this for an hour or two each morning, and teach in the afternoon/evening.
We currently have approximately 70 students, aged from 5 to 19 years, as well as evening classes for adults, who would love to learn English with you. There is a curriculum to follow, and monthly lesson plans to give basic structure, to ensure continuity for the students, while also allowing the volunteers to bring their ideas to the lessons.
All volunteers are required to teach English, but we also require help in other ways, such as improving the school (making lesson resources, gardening, painting, decorating, or building), working in our library, or helping with fundraising campaigns.
Teaching experience is not required, but volunteers must be confident in their abilities and able to take charge of their own class of up to 20 students. Student ages range from 5-19 years. English level, beginner to lower intermediate.
MINIMUM VOLUNTEER AGE - 20 YEARS.

The school is in Kracheh Province, about 5 hours drive north of Phnom Penh, in Orussey Village, about 10 minutes from Kratie town and the Mekong River. The school's owner and director, Mr. Yuth, has lived in this area for most of his life. Over time, he has watched children grow up with little or no English, and therefore, restricted job prospects. He wanted to change this and offer the children a better future. In January 2016, Mr. Yuth opened our School, built a house for volunteers, and started English classes for underprivileged children in Orussey Village and the surrounding area.
In Cambodia, tourism is an important part of the economy. However, in the public schools of Kracheh, students aren't taught much English. Mr. Yuth's goal is to enable them to learn English, and gain some basic IT skills, which will give them better job prospects and a brighter future.
The school receives no financial support from the Government and instead relies solely on donations for improvements and volunteers for teaching.
Aside from the English school, Mr. Yuth heads an NGO that works closely with vulnerable groups, farmers, women, and children by implementing sustainable projects to improve their lives. This is a long-established organization which has been in operation since 1993. Volunteers will be involved with work for this project as different needs arise.

A stay in Kratie is an opportunity to experience rural Cambodia, as few tourists ever will.
In our village, there are no tourists. The local people are very welcoming, ready with smiles and "hellos", and the local children are always keen to practice their English with foreigners.
You will be living in the community, seeing 'real Cambodia', and learning how the locals really live - visiting the local market, eating local food and interacting with local people.
In this way, you will have the chance to learn about the way of life in this rural area of Cambodia.
During your free time , Kratie is a lovely town to explore!
You can visit the town, take a trip to see the river dolphins, visit Kho Trong Island (and maybe even stay a night there in a home-stay or guest house), visit Sambok Mountain and the monkeys there, discover the forest, villages or ancient temples
More information can be found by googling 'Things to do in Kratie', and 'Mekong Discovery Trail'.
You could even go further afield to see more of northeastern Cambodia...
Visits to Mondulkiri or Ratanakiri provinces are both possible to do as a weekend trip.
Ce projet peut impliquer des enfants. Pour en savoir plus, consultez nos directives et conseils ici.
We are looking for volunteers, minimum age 20 years, to teach English. You must have a mature attitude, and be a 'self starter'.
We work with vulnerable young people, so reserve the right to request a criminal record check from our volunteers.
TEACHING ENGLISH. (typically need 4 volunteers at a time):
*️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️Minimum 3 weeks commitment,
Each volunteer will be required to teach one class, and work in our office , library, garden or on school improvement each day.
Teaching at the home-based school - Levels 1 - 6 for children 5-19 years, and conversation and grammar classes for adults. Our children's class is from 5 - 6.15pm from Monday to Friday, after the children have attended State school.
Class sizes vary from small groups to 20+ students and may contain a variety of ages, as students study by ability.. Adult classes are held after the children's classes
Teaching experience is greatly appreciated but if you are new to teaching, don't worry, a good standard of written and spoken English, and enthusiasm and a commitment to help the kids are more important. There is a resident volunteer English teacher who can give you advice and guidance. However, we do need our volunteers to have a 'can do' attitude and to be willing to take charge of their class immediately. All volunteers must be adaptable, as numbers of students, and volunteers, fluctuate throughout the year.
Lessons are formal, but can include role-playing, conversation and other ideas you have., depending on the English level of the students and the size of the class. There is a curriculum for each level, and a monthly lesson plan for volunteers to follow. We do not play games in class. Teachers keep a record of what they've taught, and how the lesson was received by the students, every day in the appropriate level's log book so that we can monitor each student's progress.
We have a library/games room that is used by the children before class each day, and sometimes on the weekends when volunteer numbers allow. There is a good selection of books, games, and art supplies. Volunteer duties in the library include engaging the students in art projects, reading stories, teaching and playing board games, and generally engaging the children in simple conversation.
THE SCHOOL IS A STRICTLY ENFORCED NO SMOKING ENVIRONMENT. SMOKING, INCLUDING E-CIGARETTES AND VAPES, IS NOT PERMITTED IN THE SCHOOL OR SURROUNDING AREA.
COMMUNICATION & FUNDRAISING
Primarily based in the office (5 minutes from the school and volunteer house).
We are always working to increase awareness of our project and raise funds for improving the school. People with marketing/fundraising backgrounds, who can help with these initiatives are always welcome.
Volunteers who have specific skills to improve our NGO staff's abilities and help our organization to reach its goals are always needed. Experts in agriculture, water sanitation, environmental tourism, climate change, health and nutrition, female empowerment and gender equality, child welfare, grant applications and funding proposals, etc, would be great for this NGO.
We ask our volunteers to help for a minimum of 5 hours per day from Monday to Friday. There's plenty of free time, and weekends are free to explore the area and relax.
In return, we provide accommodation in our newly built volunteer house located right above the school.
The house has three shared bedrooms, with up to 3 beds in each- Khmer style, mattresses and mosquito nets.
Shared communal areas include a bathroom, kitchen, and a large sitting area. This is a traditional Khmer style house, with some Western elements added. Plumbing is basic, and there is no hot water. The kitchen has no fridge, as is normal in Cambodia, as electricity is very expensive here so the cost of running one is too high. Ice is available to keep things cool. Volunteers are expected to work together to ensure good upkeep of the volunteer house.
We will provide 3 Khmer meals a day at a cost of US$ 5.00 per day :
SMOKING: Our school is a no smoking environment. Smoking, including e-cigarettes/vaping, is not allowed in, or near, our school grounds.
There is no WIFI at the house!
There are coffee shops and a hotel in the area where you can have free WIFI. For onsite internet, local SIM cards are cheap and easy to use, and can be bought from Mr. Yuth's small shop located next door to the volunteer house (the shop also sells drinks and snacks, etc.).
Volunteers have free shared access to bicycles for getting to and from town. Please note that volunteers are responsible for all upkeep / repairs of bicycles. No locks are provided so you should bring your own, or they can bought cheaply at the market in Kratie.
Alternatively, volunteers can rent their own bicycle in the city for around $10-$15 per month, Motorbikes can be rented for a daily rate. Tuk-tuks are also available in the town, or can be booked through Mr. Yuth.
Minivans to Kratie leave from Phnom Penh Central Market at 6 am and 11am to our house. Travel time is approximately 5 hours. PP vans cannot be booked in advance but we can give advice on how and where to get them. Vans from Siem Reap leave at 6am. Travel time is approximately 8 hours.
From Siem Reap, vans can be booked. Please contact us if you would like to arrange this and further details will be provided.
Please write and let us know what date you would like to come to our School (arrival on the weekend please) and the amount of time ( weeks, months) you would like to stay with us. Please note that there is a probationary period of 1 month for all volunteers wishing to stay for 8 weeks or more.
Please read our wonderful feedback to see what other volunteers thought of their time at the school, and for more information and pictures please contact us.
Please remember this is a family home and a school environment - so please, no drugs or excessive alcohol.
Formal clothing is not required for teaching, but shoulders must be covered, and shorts or skirts should be knee length. No hats or caps or sleeveless tops in class please.
Rural Cambodia is conservative, and volunteers will be representing Mr. Yuth in his community, so respectable clothing and behaviour will expected and appreciated.
Also, we don't provide towels so please bring your own.
HOW ELSE CAN YOU HELP?
Please help us reduce costs by bringing whiteboard markers, and other teaching supplies with you.
Donate. We always need picture books and flashcards for our young learners.
Used electronics, especially laptops and tablets are very much appreciated.
The school costs a lot to run, and Mr. Yuth receives no outside funding. Please consider making a cash donation. However small, it will have a big impact on the lives of these children.
Spread the word - like and share our social media page - Cambodia , leave good feedback for us, and tell your friends and other volunteers about the work we do!
