Before reading the all notice please take in consideration that in this specific moment we are looking only for someone, couple, or little family that wants to stay for a longer time. 2-3 months minimum

We are leaving in a old “Palmento” from the 19th Century - an old wine press, which is the centre piece of a productive organic farm.
You will find yourself surrounded by Sicily's gorgeous countryside, on the slopes of Mount Etna.
My husband and myself we are slowly restoring the Palmento and we need help to take care of one of the last room still to be completed.
Is the kind of place perfect for who truly loves nature!
We are involved with cultural exchange through out all our life. My husband Edilson is a Capoeira Angola Master from Brasil. I have been a dance-theatre-image artist working through out the world. Nowadays I work with a body therapy working on the postural and functional aspects of the body , Rolfing. I also teach Italian language to foreigners .
In our biological farm we produce bio wine and olive oil, beside our little personal orchard.
We love meeting people and we strongly believe on sharing

We are involved with cultural exchange throughout all our life. My husband Edilson is a Capoeira Angola Master from Brazil but also a good electrician and he did most of the renovation work until now. I have been a dance-theatre-image artist working through out the world. Nowadays I work with body therapy , Rolfing, and teach Italian language to foreigners . In our biological farm we produce bio wine and olive oil, beside our little orchard. We love meeting people and we strongly believe on sharing. We both love to preserve ancient cultural expression both culture and Sicilian musical and dance expression

Aide
My husband did most of the renovation work alone with the help of friends and woofers.
We always need help to continue preserve this piece of ancient style grape cultivation, "la coltivazione ad alberello" a very ancien style lost with the need of bigger production, we leave in a small museum of ancient ways.
And especially we need help to finish the renovation of this old wine pressing area, il Palmento.
In exchange of some working hours we can offer you the sharing of our competences and of our life style.
We'll be pleased to show you around our beautiful areas!

Hébergement
There is an independent small house attached to the main body of the Palmento, furnished with everything is needed it to be quietly by yourself while staying together with us. There is a kitchen area, the bathroom with shower, a big double bed, a niece table, a wardrobe and a fire place. A nice terrace outside overlooking the sea.
We can cook and eat together but you can also cook independently for yourself if wished or need it. Sometimes we have to go to work in the city of Catania and then you can come around with us or enjoy the quietness of the place by yourself.

Until is warm enough we like to go to the beach in the afternoons and we'll be pleased to go together and also show you around. if you want to go by yourself the closest bus stop is at 1,5km from our farm. we can also offer you a bicycle to go to the close village of Linguaglossa (2,5 km). From Linguaglossa there is a small very ancien train that goes around all the etna villages, the circumetnea. We go about two times a week in the city of Catania from where you can access many other places.
We are quiet used to receive travelers at our place, we had a lot of woofers helping us with our farming work and initial rebuilding of our ancien house and we did share very nice moment together!

I spent 3 weeks this October with Marina and Edilson, a Sicilian-Brazilian couple. My responsibilities were to help Edilson for 2-3 hrs in the morning with work in the garden and the rest of the time usually do cleaning of the kitchen or some light houseworks and luckily also some cooking together with Marina as food is my passion :) As it was… read more vintage season I also helped to clean up the workshop and make a space for grapes pressing and then pick and press grapes and clean around. I was always clearly explained what work I will do and the working hours were fair. The hosts totally respected how I spent my free time.

The house is set in the middle of uphill countryside with few distant neighbours about 600 metres above sea level. Beautiful spot for the walks in the nearby area full of forests, vineyards and Etna of course. It was season of chestnuts and there were so many chestnut trees so I kept picking chestnuts and we cooked them and ate with our meals. The nearest village is 30 min by beautiful walk. There are many shops and pasticcerias :-)
Although Marina and Edilson live in the countryside they travel to Catania quite often for their business (Marina for giving rolfing therapy and Edilson for teaching capoeira angola).

I should mention that the house is historical building of vine press that was made into a family house with a beautiful rustic interior. The surrounding terrace garden is huge and offers wonderful view of the neighbouring hills and sea of course. I loved the mornings when the sun was rising above the sea. The garden supplies the family with many fruits and vegetables. It is simply a paradise spot :-)

Especially Marina is very socially active and the couple visits lot of their friends often. So I was lucky to join them for lunch and dinner parties, also joining capoeira angola lessons or just going for a trip to Catania. I also made a trip to Taormina and with couchsurfing community people I went to Etna and inland of Sicilia.

The hosts are a sweet couple who treated me literally like a part of the family :) They were so kind to me.

With a great effort and patience Marina helped me with my Italian on everyday basis and you cannot imagine how much you can improve within a short period :-) We also shared our passion for cooking as she is an excellent cook. She cooks mainly Italian dishes and I have put down many of her recipes :) She constantly kept an eye on me making sure I had all I needed and felt happy, also was giving me ideas for my free time and helping me with the logistics. She is extremely generous with everybody, sharing her time, knowledge, possessions and love :)

I loved working with Edilson even with the language barrier challenge.(Edilson speaks Brazilian Portuguese and little Italian and I speak also only little Italian) We met every morning, exchanged a small talk, Edilson always played his favourite Brazilian songs from the music player that he took even into the most furthest corners of the garden. I enjoyed that relaxed atmosphere a lot and even picked up some Portuguese vocabulary :) I appreciated his calm personality. He is always ready to smile and likes to laugh. He also cooked almost every day very nice chicken with vegetable and I loved the fish he cooked on my last day :)

And there were also two super friendly dogs Noici and Miele who followed me everywhere and greeting me everyday by the door of my little house. The accommodation was wonderful as it was in a little house attached to the main house with my own little kitchenette and bathroom which provided me with a total privacy and comfort.

I am very grateful to spend 3 weeks in the company of these wonderful people, learning from them, also learning about their life, enjoying Etna countryside, all the plants and trees, local village, meeting new people, trying new things, eating home made food and jams doing a relaxing job in a fresh air. All this gave me more pleasure and experience than I can imagine and enriched me in many ways.

Thank you Marina & Edilson. I keep thinking of you everytime I put on the sweater or hat from you or any time there is anything Brazilian mentioned xox :)

To begin with, we were welcomed by Marina and Edilson in a fantastic way. With the warmth of Brazil and Sicily combined, they introduced us to their house and dogs, olives and vines, palms and beautiful flowers with the knowledge that this would be a… read more secure place for us now.

Edilson is a great Master of Capoeira from Bahia. He is a man of golden hands and has an unbelievable amount of knowledge in the fields of construction and garden. Thanks to Edilson's way of working, we learned how much more careful, patient and attentive a person should be while carrying out a task. He simply taught us to analyse and measure the work with brain before putting hands to it. Simply a very caring and lovely person, who cooks true Bahian food better than anybody around here.

Marina is a very intelligent and sympathetic person who knows a lot about the world and Sicily, has lived abroad most of her life meeting diverse cultures and opinions. She knows about the garden, how to make delicious food, how to work efficiently and a lot more. Thanks to her the work we did was organised and productive. Marina made sure that we had everything we needed and always paid attention to our needs.

Furthermore, the work itself was diverse. The garden is very big and always has a lot of things to do. It was enjoyable to work between different trees and plants. To know more in-depth about each one of them. Also, renovating an old 19th century house(room) was full of surprises and difficult but rewarding. It is a pleasure to give a new life to something so antique.

Nearest shop(supermarket) is in the distance of 1.5km. Village Linguaglossa is 2.5km away and has many cafè's, shops and a pharmacy. Everything you would need will be at the distance.

Finally, we had our own room/house with a kitchen and shower. We were always welcomed in the main building to drink a cup of tea, eat, share or anything we would have loved to do. Thus, Marina and Edilson will offer you chances to go and do activities with them as well. For example capoeira classes with Edilson, drum or other interesting classes with Marina. They involved us as a family and that was very important for us.

We have have infitive amount of gratitude for all this.
