We are a small family living in a very special place on the edge of Hwange national park Zimbabwe. We live in a homestead we built ourselves from natural materials. Living in the community that lives with the problems of living with wildlife we are looking for simple solutions that improve peoples lives and protect wildlife and the environment at the same time. We are continually working on setting up our homestead and lifestyle to be a sustainable model to inspire others. We collect rain water, use compost toilets, use solar cookers and rocket stoves to cook, all grey water is re-used so only natural organic products are used. We grow crops during the rainy season in a small field and protect the existing woods around our home that have many wild fruits. Drinking water we hand pump at the village borehole.
This year we will be building a rammed earth skills workshop for herders in our area. Running more workshops on how to build rocket stoves. We homeschool our son but we are looking to also build a school. Setting up permaculture gardens and training. Continuing to set up a sustainable model within our homestead. Start trying out bee keeping to work towards a solution to keep elephants from fields. Work on developing appropriate technologies made from recycled materials such as solar cookers.
We live as part of a community in the 'real Africa' both amazing people and amazing wildlife. There is much to learn from the environment and our own experiences after 10 years of living and working in the area.
Ce projet peut impliquer des enfants. Pour en savoir plus, consultez nos directives et conseils ici.
Any skills that you may have that would support our projects, for example carpentry, permaculture, I.T.
Anyone with some teaching experience to help teach my son homeschooling. There are a few other children that join us on the weekends.
Helping with permaculture and natural building projects is also welcome.
We are continually experimenting with natural building methods and making all sorts of devices that can be made easily by others. These are things which can better peoples lives but not harm the environment. The aim is that our homestead is a source
We live a simple life in an amazing place but there are no luxuries! The spare room is a pole and thatch structure with canvas walls, simple but comfortable. There is no running water we collect rainwater and otherwise pump water at the village borehole. Bucket shower and compost toilet.
Accommodation and food are free, you cover any luxuries.
We live on the other side of the road to the national park where there are many animals such as lions, elephants, cheetah, wild dog, leopard, giraffe etc etc some of them come close to our home.
For game viewing there are lodges close by where a sundowner over looking a waterhole where animals come to drink is the most amazing experience! There are game drive vehicles that wait for tourists at the national park main camp to drive around looking for animals.
From the main road there are buses or hitch hiking to take you to victoria falls which is 2 hours away or bulawayo 3 hours away.
