We are Marco & Danouck. He's from Costa Rica, she's from the Netherlands. We are the happily married couple that runs a 'Hostel and a Restaurant. Both are located in the same facility, right in the down town next to the central park in Grecia, Alajuela, Costa Rica.
Our hostel and restaurant offer a unique atmosphere where everyone is welcome to relax, share and enjoy. Our beautiful tropical garden is a great place where locals meet travellers, where you can socialize, have an artisanal beer, play with our cats, watch hummingbirds feed, see a variety of flowers bloom, read or work on your laptop.
Our small hostel invites travellers to discover a different part of Costa Rica. The quaint town of Grecia is off the beaten path and in close proximity to Volcán Poás, Los Chorros Waterfalls, the undiscovered area of Bajos del Toro (a true waterfall paradise!) and the artisanal town of Sarchí. We love to provide our guests with insider sightseeing / travel tips so they can enjoy Grecia, its surroundings and Costa Rica to the fullest.
Wee aim to make our guests 'travel through taste' by offering a variety of delicious international and national specialities. We also find it very important that all people can share a great meal together, so our diverse menu offers something for everyone. From vegetarians, vegans, meet lovers to people with certain intolerances... Everyone can eat and share a satisfying meal here.
We often organize cultural activities like live music, art expositions, movie nights, quiz nights, theatre, and so on. The unique blend of all these components together + our small but dedicated team make sure that our guests experience the Pura Vida lifestyle.
Our staff consist of two professional cooks who are 100% responsible for everything that happens in the kitchen and two cleaning ladies who take care of cleaning the hostel and the common areas. We ourselves are in charge in the roles of managers of the hostel and the restaurant, waiters, gardeners, maintenance staff, event managers … and so on. We are very grateful to rely on this small, responsible team for all the tasks that need to be done in and around the restaurant and hostel.
We are PURA VIDA people and open minded persons.
We don't discriminate! Everybody is welcome!

Workawayers will have a good time meeting and socializing with locals as well as travellers from all over the world. They will also experience and learn about Costa Rica's Pura Vida lifestyle, try international and national dishes from our restaurant, get to know how to create dishes like ours and benefit from being present at live music events, local arts expositions, movie nights and so on. We ourselves have visited numerous places here around Costa Rica and are very happy to share all our experiences and insider information about how to explore Costa Rica in an authentic and exciting way.
First of all we are looking for Workawayers who would be helping us out with receiving guests at the reception and giving them touristic information. As we receive both national (Costa Ricans) and international travellers you will be coming into contact with different cultures and languages. For the same reason, it is important for Workawayers to know that we are searching for people who speak both English and Spanish at a decent level since our guests are both locals as well as internationals. As we described above: we are also very much interested in language exchange and we will be working on your Spanish on a daily bases if needed.
You can also offer a helping hand / share your creative ideas during the preparations of events and help out with small maintenance in the hostel. As we are active on social media and on our website (travel blog, etc.), we are always up for listening to creative ideas and suggestions to create interesting content and posts. We also have a lovely garden that you can take care off.
Besides, we are looking for artists / musicians and other creative souls to either present / expose their music, arts, skills at our hostel and / or artists that can contribute to our hostel / restaurant in an artistic way. We have a couple of unused / unpainted walls that could be used as a canvas for example!
Although we are not searching for chefs who can help us out in the restaurant kitchen, it's a plus if you have experience in professional kitchens and / or bar tendering. We would love to share experiences, learn and listen to advice!
All this would be in exchange for accommodation and food.
Cet hôte propose un échange linguistique
We both love languages! Marco speaks Spanish, Portuguese, English and a bit of French and is learning Dutch. Danouck speaks Dutch, Spanish, English, a bit of German and French. We very much interested in learning and / or teaching languages so we can both benefit and grow together through language exchange.
We offer Workawayers a single bed private room with shared bathroom at the hostel. We offer a private room because of the situation around Covid. You won't have to share your room with others.
Workawayers will be able to visit a number of beautiful natural sites around our hostel, like the Poás Volcano, the undiscovered area of Bajos del Torro (a true waterfall paradise), Los Chorros waterfalls, hike in the forests around Grecia... and much more.
We are easily reachable by public transport. The bus stop is only 100 meters away from our doorstep. From Grecia town, there are many connections toward destinations around the Costa Rican coast, the Arenal Volcano, Monteverde, San José, ...
