Update April 2022:
We are getting many requests, which we are very happy about! Our accomodation capacity is limited though, and we are currently working on a house project to be able to accomodate more people. For the months of April and May, we are keeping one bed available, in case someone with carpentry skills should apply. This is a double bed, so also possible for a couple, or good friends to apply.
General information:
We are a family of 4, Ivar and Wirat in mid 40's, Jonas 7 yo, and Aria 14 yo. Grandparents living next door. Both parents have jobs outside the farm, so having help from workawayers is greatly appreciated. With two houses on the farm, and a big garden, we basically never run out of stuff that should be taken care of, but time is always limited!
The farm is located just below the arctic circle, at the base of Saltfjellet/Svartisen National Park, growing potatoes on about 10 hectares. Our family has been running the farm since around 1760, and we are proud to still be developing land for sustainable production of food.
Though it is a conventional farm, we focus on environmental sustainability, and use modern technology to minimize consumption of herbicides and fertilizers. The production is relatively mechanized, and done with machines which require special certification, so workawayer participation in the actual farm production is very limited. But there are plenty of other stuff that needs doing!
The workaway experience at our place, is a mix of taking part in general household chores, small and big maintenance jobs in house and garden, cleaning and tidying up in- and outside. It also includes looking after and activating the kids, in addition to being part of our family of course. In the coming months, we have a couple of building projects planned, so we are hoping to get applications from someone with some carpentry skills. We have planned to build a new terrace for the house, as well as setting up a new building for accomodating workawayers and other visitors to the farm.
We are friendly, sociable people, and hope to make new friends, as well as getting help on the property, through the workaway experience!
Worth to mention, since many workawayers have special dietary information, is that we are not vegetarians. Hunting and fishing has been part of the lifestyle on the farm since our forfathers made the first fields, and we are still self supplied with moosemeat from the wilderness, which we are happy to serve to our guests. We do however respect anyones choice on this matter, and will do our best to feed also those less savage than ourselves! ;)
If you write "potato lover" in the headline, we will know that you actually read our profile, before applying. ;)

When you stay at our farm, you will be a member of our family, and take part in our way of living. Although the tasks given are not directly related to potato production, you are welcome to tag along as a learning experience of how we produce potatoes in an arctic climate. If you are in a process of getting language training, we could be helpful both with Norwegian and English.
Ce projet peut impliquer des enfants. Pour en savoir plus, consultez nos directives et conseils ici.
You will be expected to help out with random tasks around the property. Anything from normal housework and gardening, to smaller refurbishing projects, maintenance and cleaning. Also at times, we have bigger building projects, so carpentry skills can be greatly appreciated.

Having worked abroad for many years, Ivar has an above average command of the English language, and can be a good conversationalist, in order to improve your own skills. However, he could use some more practice in German and French!
You will be staying in a modern caravan, just next to our house. Access to bathroom and kitchen (and mostly everything else) inside the house. During the coming months, we plan to set up a new building, to accomodate workawayers, maybe you will take part in building this?!
At the base of Saltfjellet/Svartisen National Park, you have a perfect starting point for hikes in the mountains. The nearby Svartisen Glacier is another popular sight. The farm is located kind of in the wilderness, so if you like to stay close to nature, it's a perfect spot. There is a river running through our valley, and we have both a canoe and a river kayak available, and there are very nice opportunities for fishing. Should you be here during winter, it is usually rich in snow, and mountains around the farm are popular among skiers. Up to more than 1000 altimeters of downhill, after climbing to the top can take the breath out of anyone!
