Description
My place is at an old farm that's no longer in use as a farm. It's in a small village on 1 hour away from Tromsø by car on the south side of the lovely island Kvaløya. In the wintertime its possible to see the aurora from the bedroom windows. During summer here is bright as the day all 24 hours because of the midnight sun. There are also a ski track in the village. I love to take photos of the nature. In the summer it's possible to hike in the mountains around and go fishing in the sea.

Bedroom, food and some transportation. I eat any kind of food and prefer that you eat fish and food from animals to have the meals as easy as possible. I also would like to taste your cooking. I'm very found of spicy food.

Katja and Markus are a very friendly and funny couple. They are easy to be around and where like family members from the first day.

Kyrre is a top host. He's probably the most generous we've met in a long time. Hospitality is very important in his house. Everything is done to make you feel at home. Kyrre also cares a lot about getting to know the beautiful island of Kvaloya and having a good work-life balance. Here are the facts:

Accommodation
We had a private bedroom in the… read more main building. The window opened towards the waterfall. Those who cannot fall asleep can listen to the sound of the waterfall. There is almost no traffic or aircraft noise. The quiet is a pleasure. A dream!
There is parking for a camper, so of course you could just as easily sleep in your own Campervan.
During our stay we had our own bathroom with shower and toilet. All very clean. We were also allowed to use the washing machine and dryer. It doesn't get any better than that.
Highlights: The Kyrre estate is right on the fjord. Sit on the terrace and watch the dolphins pass by in the fjord. No joke: they really show up here sometimes! But we could also see seals, ospreys and seagulls. But you can also do this from the comfortable wing chairs in the living room.

Meals
Breakfast: Since Kyrre often had to work during our stay, we mostly had breakfast alone. When he worked from home or was there at the weekend, of course we ate together. In addition to coffee, bread and crispbread, we also had sausage or spreads available. The legendary Norwegian brown cheese couldn't be missing either.
Lunch: Either leftovers from the night before or whatever you want to eat. There was always enough to eat there.
Dinner: Kyrre loves to cook and is good at it. Often there was typical Norwegian food. But he is also happy to be cooked for with local meals from your home country. We arranged it so that we cooked on the days he had to work away from home. On the home office days he cooked.

Work
Of course, the types of work depend on the time of your stay. We stayed here four weeks from early June to early July using brush cutters and lawn mowers to clear the grounds of Kyrres Castle. With 24/7 sunshine, everything grows super fast.
The jobs also depend on your skills. For example, we felled some trees, delimbed them and sawed them into smaller pieces (but also had experience with this). You will never be forced into any work. Kyrre places great importance on the safety of his workawayers. He prefers to do more dangerous work himself.
We also tended the strawberry beds and helped Kyrre dismantle his old barn and then stacked the dismantled parts of the building on pallets. We always worked with him on the dismantling of the barn because it was a bit tricky.

Leisure
There are countless ways to spend your free time here on Kvaloya and/or the neighboring islands. If you have no idea what to do, Kyrre has at least a thousand tips for you. It is very important to him to bring you closer to the advantages of this unique landscape. We went cycling (Kyrre has bikes for hire). We've been on several hikes, rented a trimaran sailing kayak on Sommaroy or lazed on the beach. Tromso is only an hour's drive away. So if you want to go out or just go shopping, you can do so here. The neighboring islands are also definitely worth a visit. If you use the ferries on foot or by bike, you even ride for free.
So that we don't just do the typical tourist stuff, Kyrre took us hiking or drove us through Tromsoya in the car and gave us tips.
In the evenings we often chilled together in front of the TV and imagined our favorite songs or bands on YouTube. Intercultural exchange, so to speak.

Conclusion:
During our entire stay we felt very at home and welcome. We traveled to Kvaloya in search of a host and we found a friend. We are very grateful for this great time. We're both looking forward to meet him again.

George stayed for a week and did a great job helping me clear a new lawn. He picked stones and raked for several days. He also cleared a room from some old materials and filled up several trailers with wood.

His and my lifestyle was not a good match but we managed to get around.

Aya is a very nice and warm woman.
She stayed at my place for a week and did all kind of work. Helped me with a fence, picked stone, raked a new lawn, painted, and a lot more. She did every job as if was her favorite.
