Description
🌊 Welcome to our Project!
Hi Workawayers!
I'm Azlan, but you can call me Jojo. I’m a marine engineer — I spend half my time working on ships, and the other half building something meaningful on land: a grassroots maritime community project.
In 2023, I began constructing a small house and a repair workshop by the sea. But this is more than just a place to fix boats — it’s part of a bigger vision to empower coastal communities, especially our local fishermen, by giving them access to tools, knowledge, and a space to create change.
---
It is a non-profit initiative focused on:
Hands-on technical training for youth & fishermen 🛠️
Recycling & marine innovation 🌱
Environmental awareness and community resilience 🌍
Our mission is to support coastal communities with practical tools, sustainable practices, and shared learning — starting right here, on the shores of the Melaka Strait.
---
Our main space is a combination of a workshop, a creative lab, and a village gathering place.
Here, we:
1. KUMPUL (Gather) – Fishermen, volunteers & youth come together to share problems and ideas
> “We don’t look for who’s at fault. We look for who wants to build.”
2. KONSTRUK (Construct) – We use tools to repair boats, build things, and test recycling ideas
> “Anyone can be a creator — with the right tools and encouragement.”
3. KONGSI (Share) – We run workshops to spread knowledge and showcase community-built solutions with our classroom.
> “What we build here can inspire change elsewhere.”
It is a safe and inclusive space for learning, creating, and collaborating — open to everyone who wants to help make a difference.
---
🙌 How You Can Help
No special skills required. All we need is your positive spirit and willingness to contribute.
1. DIY + Workshop Support ⚒️
We're constantly improving — from fixing boat engines to welding frames, building benches, or organizing materials.
👉 If you love working with your hands (or want to learn!), this is the place.
👉 Most volunteers leave having learned to weld or use power tools — no experience needed!
> Bonus if you have skills in carpentry, mechanics, welding, construction or admin — but not required.
---
2. Maintenance & Living Space Upkeep 🧽
Being near the ocean means we have to fight humidity and rust!
You can help by:
Cleaning the workshop and kitchen areas
Painting metal surfaces
Tidying our tools and shared spaces
---
3. Eco-Cleaning & Village Care ♻️
Once a week, we go out into the village and coast to:
Collect marine waste and plastics
Clean the fish market and public restrooms
Recycle discarded fishing nets into useful or artistic creations
We believe in community-led action to protect our environment and uplift our village.
---
🏡 What’s It Like Here?
A peaceful fishing village along the Melaka Strait
Simple, rustic lifestyle — focused on nature, sharing and teamwork
We cook together, work together, and rest together
Expect daily learning — from hands-on skills to cultural exchange
---
If you're curious, kind, and want to contribute to something real, this is your chance. You'll leave with memories you’ll never forget.

I believe that an important part of volunteering is sharing culture and knowledge.
I propose having one day a week dedicated to this exchange. The goal is to have a good time together, but mainly, discover the culture through locals' experiences.
For example, I brought the volunteers to visit : some farms, village industries, a school, and even participate in a local wedding ! I really enjoy sharing authentic cultures with my guests, so I do everything to make them experience new things.
For fishing enthusiasts, fishing boats are also available with some fee. Or you can just set your rod at the jetty for free.
There are a lot of food stalls in the neighborhood where you can try the 'asam pedas fish'. Which is a local cuisine here.Aide
Minimum stay will be 2 weeks. however, less than that is negotiable

I built one hostel for the volunteers, that includes :
- 6 beds (3 double decker bunk bed, bed sheets and blankets included),
- 1 shared bathroom and toilets,
- 2 AC, and 2 fans,
- 1 fridge,
- 1 place to chill.
From the room you can see the jetty and ocean.
There is also a rooftop area where we could hangout after work.
Our kitchen is equipped with a stove, oven, fridge and complete cooking utensil.
We also have a pool table, air hockey and ping-pong table.Autres infos...
