Description
Spring has sprung and we are having a wonderful time with the flowers and the butterflies! This is the time of year when we get to create our spring garden and would love anyone with farming or permaculture experience to join us on our land during this exciting time. We have lots of seeds to nurture and put in the ground in our gardens. Reach out if planting, farming and agriculture excites you! We love to experiment and try new ideas as we tame our soil and our land.
Hello! We are two American Ex Pats homesteading on a small eco-friendly farm in southern Albania. Kyle and Shawn fell in love with the Albanian countryside eight years ago and moved from their lives in Los Angeles to build their dream farm six years ago. Having found an exquisite piece of land nestled into an archeological zone just outside of the popular tourist destination Saranda, we started building from the ground up as the land was without water, power or buildings!
With the infrastructure now in place we spend a lot of time focusing on the land, amending the soil and planting trees and veggies. We like to create hiking paths, natural rock staircases and add to our friendly farm animals! We have donkeys, goats, chickens and pigs. We hope to finish our duck pond and add ducks to our list! We also have three lovely farm dogs (Hummus, Starkey, and Henry) and an orange tabby cat named Jack.
In the off season the pace at the farm is very calm. Activities include animal care, mucking, permaculture solid work, composting, gardening, trail cutting and other small projects.
This is for lovers of quiet and nature. We usually host a small group and create a nice community. If you have skills to bring to the table we welcome to learn from your knowledge or you can learn from our skills. We like to try new things so maybe we will all learn something together!
If you are looking to come to Saranda in the summer tourist season please note that we run a business in the summer months and offer very limited workaway volunteer space. During this time the atmosphere is very different! The land is just as beautiful but the vibe is very busy! It is no longer a place for those looking for quiet!
You would assist with our personal garden and animals but Workaway volunteers would not be working at our hotel or restaurant.

We spent a combined 40 years working in Los Angeles Entertainment Industry so we can share many stories with you. We are artists and artists always learn from each other. I also ran a successful NGO in Animal Welfare in the states. We speak pretty good English and are currently learning Shqip (that's Albanian in Albanian) and can study together out in the field. As new ex-pats we have a unique view on changing and committing to a new lifestyle. Side trips can be arranged to visit unique local Albanian villages hidden away from the touritsy areas and engage directly with the traditional Albanian culture. We hope to inspire you in one way or another to follow your dreams.

We are looking for people who love the outdoors, enjoy gardening and getting dirty.
All skills are appreciated while farm experience will be met with awe and reverence! Most important we are looking for people with the desire to work with others and a positive attitude.

Hébergement
Bunk houses on the land out in the country but just 15 minutes from the sea. All rooms are shared and include Multiple toilets and showers plus a stocked workaway kitchen filled with vegetarian staples. It is not meant to or may not provide all the items you want for your meal but it is easy to pick up the odds and ends you may need. We do not supply animal protein but you may purchase and cook it in the kitchen. If you have food allergies or special nutrition requirements, you may need to supplement what is provided. We have an allocated budget and staples we provide. If you are a big eater or need to snack, it is your responsibility to purchase your needs separately. There is a place where you can tag and store your personal food items in the kitchen. There are many markets nearby and we are happy to take you to the store or pick up things for you for reimbursement.

Living out at the farm full-time is a dream but we are close to many other sites. There are lots and lots of beaches nearby, beautiful hikes and multiple UNESCO Heritige sites as well.
