Description
Hi there!
Myself and Alba , my Spanish partner, are renting a beautiful strip of wild land by the coast of one of the last stretches of (almost!) unspoilt mediterranean Spain. The land is a 5 minute walk from a nice sleepy village, Maro, 10 minutes walk from the beach on a private path, and a 40 minute walk from tourist town Nerja. we have bikes you can use to explore the area as well...
We have a lot of experience with hosting volunteers, as well as in my case spending many years travelling as a volunteer myself, and try to provide an interesting cultural exchange aside from (and during!) the help that you would be providing. I worked for a year and a half as a volunteer coordinator in the project Sunseed in Almeria, and we have hosted volunteers here at our farm since we began the project some 9 years ago, and so know the importance of the experience as a window into possible futures to explore for people, as well as a great, if not the only, way to enter into the local culture quickly and easily, and get to know people in the area as a new friend of the community.
We are always looking for support with the long to do list that is ever present in a smallholding. we have a garden which provides our food, which we will need to prepare soon and would love help with that, so you can learn about soil and its preparation, watering systems and planting. we also have a caravan which we are renovating ourselves and help with that would be great, so you can learn about some basic light woodworking.
we can also help you learn Spanish and speak in Spanish in general if you like.
Food is included , but we don't have fancy stuff, it's all basic vegetarian fare, lentils, rice , toast for breakfast , you get the idea ... if you have anything you specifically want we can talk about it though...
Accommodation will be in a large van in a comfortable double bed.
I am quite busy working outside the farm recently, but will try and organize to be able to work alongside you, but it might not always be possible, so you would need to be ok working on your own independently sometimes, and then we will see each other at lunch ...
There is no good access for vehicles (unless you have a 4x4!) So parking vans on the land isn't an option unfortunately...
We have a cat, squeek, in case you are allergic or have a dog. You may see harmless snakes, geckos, spiders etc , so better if you are a lover of nature in all its guises! You might even see Chameleons if you are very observant, as they are notoriously difficult to spot! in April or May the Mosquitos will appear again, so if you reading this then, bring long sleeved light clothes or repellent ...
The area is a subtropical microclimate, so if you are interested in unusual plants we have planted many, from bananas, avocado and custard apple trees to Sapote and ice cream bean, although the majority are still young... We would love to turn the whole place into a multi layered forest garden, and are in the process.
The land is all organic and full of wildflower and insects . There are beautiful sea views and a little stream to chill by.
There is a compost toilet and hot shower.
There is also a really nice group of people and friends in the area here that are open and welcoming and it is easy to make friends of all nationalities if you are open.
Thanks for reading,
Jack

Puedes… read more
Stefan is a special person for many reasons , not least of these is that he enjoys washing up . He is respectful and considerate of personal space and knows how to entertain himself with his books and music , but he is also sociable, easy to chat to and likes to get to know new people and help them out wherever he can. I left… read more
