Description
Hi there,
We are a family of four. We have two sons. The eldest is working here on the farm with us. Together we run a sheep/ cattle farm in the heart of the Karoo area - It is situated just outside Nieu Bethesda in the foothills of the majestic Sneeuberg Range sixty kilometres north of Graaff Reinet.
With help from the locals we manage to keep the farm open for tourists so they can experience the land that meets the sky. The original farmstead and outbuildings have been renovated to guest accommodation inspired by the rustic and warm spirit the Karoo brings with it. We can accommodate groups up to 26 people.
Help with general upkeep, office work, garden and tourism related work is always welcomed.
Our passion is to show people our surroundings and share our discoveries of Bushmen rock art, and Karoo fossils which we keep in our farm museum.
We often take animals, who has been hurt, in to rehabilitate them. That includes some meercats, birds, buck, and Helen the Owl - Helen was brought in with a broken wing. She stayed around for 6 years. One of our workawayers had some experience with owl training, and she made quite a progress with her. Helen has just left the farm to experience the wilder world. We are glad we could get to know her in the 6 years she was part of our lives. You never know what kind of animal will come in.
If you are interested in having a great time in South Africa, exploring the landscapes, and helping with tourists from all over the world, this is the place for you - The Karoo area is filled with undiscovered history, and you can be a part of that.
We welcome workawayers all year round. We are very busy in the summer holidays and would welcome help from someone that is prepared to stay for the whole of December at least, but prefer ones that will stay for half of January too, when the holidays end. Over Christmas we close for about 4 nights and on old years eve you will experience the yearly lantern parade in the village.Types d'aide et opportunités d'apprendre

There is always something to do on our farm - We have a lot of tourist that need to be kept happy when visiting most months of the year. Sometimes functions. If they are not here there is always renovations to do. So there is plenty of chores to do... But it really depends on what there will be needed at the time. You can always do some maintenance on the farm such as painting and rebuilding, help with computer, Office work, take care of the animals or help with general work involving tourists or just what ever we as family are doing. At the moment we are doing some building projects as well.
