I am English woman living alone with my animals but have a number of good friends nearby in the village. I have a shop in Kalkan and am also very involved with a local street animal charity . I would prefer couples or women ideally

If you like nature and the outdoors plus peace and quiet this maybe the perfect spot for you. My house is an old stone village house that I have rennovated. It is comfortable, but there are still quite a few jobs to do around the house and garden.It is situated on the side of the Kaputaş valley in a typical rural Turkish village called Sarıbelen. Many walkers pass through Sarıbelen while hiking the Lycian Way. It has spectacular views and many beautiful places to walk.

I have a large garden and a fairly large, old house. I also have 6 cats and 3 dogs and often foster for a local animal charity. I am looking for people that can help in the garden and the house and be company for my animals.

Enjoying caring for animals are essential. The area I live in is very beautiful and perfect for those that enjoy walking. I work very long hours throughout the summer months and don't like to leave my animals alone for too long. While my house is very comfortable there are still many jobs that need to be done around the house and garden so if you enjoy working with your hands you would never be bored.

Hébergement
I have a large 3 bedroom house. I can provide a comfortable double room and people would have access to kitchen, bathroom, living room etc If you have allergies to dog and cat hair though this will not be the place for you. I try to keep the place tidy but with little time and so many animals it is an uphill struggle.

The area I live in is very beautiful. Kalkan is the nearest town which is about 14km away. It is a picturesque tourist resort. The Lycian way passes very close to my house and is perfect for those who enjoy hiking.

The area is full of historical sights such as Patara, Xanthos, Pınara etc. Fethiye is about 90km away and Kaş is about 30km away. For anyone who enjoys the outdoors this is a perfect spot.

I have a business in Kalkan which takes up a lot of my time during the summer, and I am also a potter, so when I am not at my shop I am usually working in my home studio.
I can drop people in Kalkan if they want to come down to do some shopping or go to the beach. There is a bus service that runs near my house but not too frequently.

I am happy to do shopping but have little time for cooking. I am a vegetarian so I don’t buy fish or meat.

We were looking for workaway opportunities in southwest Turkey and Maggi’s got in our attention because of the animals - we really like to be around them. Maggi lives in a village super close to Kalkan which is a beautiful small city by the Mediterranean. The house is very spacious with a big garden and stunning views. We had a nice bedroom for ourselves with a very comfortable mattress, several pillows and soft bed linen. Internet connection is excellent and we had full signal everywhere. Maggi made sure we had everything we needed. We would make a list and she would do the shopping almost daily. We felt very safe and welcome.

The work was fair. We helped around the house with gardening, cleaning, cooking, general maintenance and some renovations at her shop. Maggi was very relaxed and flexible about it. We kept track of all the hours worked and everything was smoothly. Augusto had a lot of fun with her tools and had the freedom to create, fix and build stuff. He built a dog kennel, a big cabinet for gardening tools, a slip casting table for Maggi’s pottery, did all the electrics for the new depot and several other small things - always had some project going on. Barbara learned some basics about pottery and loved it.

We got really attached to the animals as there are several dogs and cats in the house. Maggi is involved with an organisation that helps street dogs and cats, she literally knows every street dog by name and takes care of a lot of them. It was normal that she would go out to buy groceries and come back with a stray puppy that had an accident and needed a place to recover from surgery. Like who does that? Her love for the animals is truly amazing like we have never seen before, and being part of it was very rewarding.

She has the most amazing stories and we talked for hours sitting around the fire place with some wine. We laugh a lot. We also cried when we lost Chile and it was hard as she was a very lovely dog, But then Preta came very injured, got better soon, and also got our heart with her cuteness - she is the most sweet dog ever.

We are very grateful for all the love we got at Maggi’s. Thank you Maggi, looking forward to meet you and the animals again :)

We were quickly introduced to many dogs - Maron and Pushkins being the ones I miss most - and a handful of cats (Louis being he stinkiest)! What can we say, it was an amazing summer at Maggi's! Maggi is so kind and caring for the animals there, and for us too of course! We had great and silly talks with her (think Turkish politics but then also making fun of British reality tv) and enjoyed morning coffees and doggy brushing. The garden plants now have a cool irrigation system so it… read more doesn't take much time to water the plants that don't. We had such fun with the dogs, especially our Banana with Katie, Bronwyn and little Portie! Every morning, we went up the track with 8 of the dogs to see the beautiful view of the ocean (really amazing when the clouds are rolling in!) and you can let most of the dogs off the leads when you pass the last house (except Jack and Nusqa, but they are the best walkerson the lead!). We will definitely miss that moment when all the dogs run off up the hill! But don't forget to bring a big jar of water for when they get thirsty. We aso learned that earlier walks are better because if you go later, the dogs get warmer faster and therefore makes for sometimes shorter walks. But some do enjoy a cold bath upon returning home! Snuggling with the pack on the cold floor after the hot walks will definitely be missed. During the day when they are all sleeping (it gets very hot in the summer days!) you can enjoy a nice rest on the two lovely hammocks and read one of the many books from Maggi's library. Also with that many furry friends in the house, it does get dusty and well, furry. So a daily sweep of the house is definitely needed, and hoover a few times a week. The cats just need food in the morning and evening and apart from that, aren't too demanding. Except Fearless! He's the cuddly one who thinks he is a dog ;) The dogs love to play in the garden, so there are many many kongs hidden everywhere in there! Dinner was always the fun part when everyone gets really excited and they all constantly switch bowls, its like playing Musical chairs really. Administrating meds wasn't complicated, so don't worry if you are not familiar with it. You get used to it! The days end with a nice evening walk with the dogs (sometimes you can catch the beautiful sunset on the mountain, sometimes its just nice to walk in the dark with the big lampposts guiding you!) and kissing everybody goodnight. It was such a relaxing, fun and cuddly summer and we definitely look forward to coming back in winter months. And the Animation video will be online soon, Maggi! Also working on another one for Christmas time ;) Thank you so much for everything Maggi, and anyone thinking of coming to take care of the dogs, don't hesitate! They all have a special spot in our hearts now :)

A happy, cheerful couple that stayed with me for about two and a half months. They walked and fed my own dogs everyday and my foster dogs too. Their own dog Banana is a bit excitable but that is to be expected of a dog her age, she is very friendly.
