    Description

    Introduction
We are a dive shop in Tioman since year 2000, previously operated from Kampung Air Batang (ABC Village) and we have now moved our operations to Kampung Genting.

This workaway site is to invite volunteers to volunteer with us in Kampung Genting only.

We want to build a campsite dive resort here. Our beautiful camp is a complete nature paradise. It is not just beach, sea, and marine creatures. Our backyard is made up of mountainous jungle filled with exotic flora and fauna. It is home to mouse deers, porcupines, monkeys, squirrels, snakes, flying fox, terrapins, sea eagles, slow loris... and who knows what other mysterious creatures lurks within ;)

There is still a lot to do, and a great variety of tasks for you to get involved in. We are eager to get as much help as we can.

In your free time, you can go hiking, rock climbing, trail running, cycling, snorkeling, swimming, kayaking or just snooze your time away ;)

Fresh water is piped from the waterfall straight into our camp. We have grid electricity in Genting village and good fast internet.

Fresh ingredients, canned and dry food, and most basic needs can be bought in the sundry goods shop. There are also ample food stalls, cafés and shops in Genting village. you can buy fresh cooked food eg fried rice noodles, vegy or meat dishes, bread etc. And there is also a DUTY FREE SHOP for cheap beer wine cigarettes.

Volunteers have to contribute 5 hours a day, 5 days a week.

We have a dormitory with bunk beds for volunteers.
or, they can choose to sleep in hammocks under the stars. (We also sell the hammocks with mosquito nets included. They are cheap at only 10 Euros each set. Or just bring your own)

We provide breakfast and lunch and dinner. Volunteers can use the kitchen to cook, provided they clean up after themselves immediately.
*Please take note we eat a lot of rice. Rice for breakfast, rice for lunch, rice for dinner too. Fried rice. Rice noodles. Rice porridge etc. If you don't like rice, you will have problems.

  • Autres infos...

    Autres infos...

Please read through my description carefully.

You choose to volunteer in the camp because you are a true and serious outdoors and nature lover. Also, you enjoy hard physical work, and don't mind eating and sleeping simply.

If you are not such a person, you will not enjoy it here. Please consider other locations. You are doing yourself and me a disservice by coming here with other expectations.

    1. BUY A CELCOM SIM.
    4G Internet on our jetty.

    2. There is a government health clinic in Genting village should anyone needs minor medical attention. NO DOCTOR. only a medical assistant. There is a doctor in Tekek VIllage, 2 hours walk or 30 minutes speed boat ride.

    3. Please bring a pair of shoes suitable for work. There are some sharp pebbles, thorny plants on the grounds.

    4. *️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️BRING A HEAD LAMP*️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️ or torch light. These items can be bought in Mr.DiY shop in Mersingn mainland.

    5. Your own snacks or food that you like.

    6. Managing expectations.
THE CAMP IS NOT SUITABLE FOR EVERYONE.
Please bring a positive, flexible, can-do attitude here. It is a remote location in a 3rd world country, and things do go wrong. If you cannot accept these conditions, this place is not for you.
If you love nature, you will like it here and won't mind roughing it out.

    7. Travel directions
From Kuala Lumpur you take a bus from TBS bus terminal to Mersing, usually 6 to 7 hours ride. I recommend the night bus, so you arrive in mersing around 5am.

From Singapore, there's a direct bus to mersing early in the morning. Or, you get across to Malaysia to Johor Baru bus terminal to catch the bus to mersing that departs every hour.

From mersing bus station, It's a short 15 minute walk to the jetty where you buy your ferry ticket rm60 one way fare to tioman island. You will have to state your destination jetty when you buy your ticket. You can also buy the ferry tickets online. Bluewater Ferry.

There is also a marine park fee to pay for all foreigners which is rm50,
(Rm35 tioman marine park fee and rm15 johor national park fee)

Tell the ferry crew you want to get off at kampung Genting.
Genting jetty is usually the first stop as you arrive on tioman. The ferry ride is about 80 minutes.
