  • Description

Hello! I'm a Classics student at the University of Cambridge with a love for the Latin language and literature, as well as the role and history of women in the Greco-Roman world. It’s a brilliant time at uni and although I do adore academia, I’m looking for more diverse experiences to fulfil me.

I grew up in London’s suburbs but I’ve realised city life isn’t quite right for me. I enjoy the bustle and cultural melting pot of a capital city but find myself constantly missing the countryside and mountains. I have a particular soft spot for Grindelwald, Switzerland as the place which fostered my love of hiking, the mountains and cows (embarrassingly, my favourite animal).

I’ve been very fortunate to travel a fair bit of Europe with my parents but now it’s time for me to get out and explore new places on my own terms - and properly explore. I want to get to know and partake in local cultures and traditions, learn the food, the language, the landscape, the general way of life. I have a tendency towards romantic notions and am currently taken with a biography about the explorer, Freya Stark. My words may not be as poetic as hers, but I’d like to follow her in venturing beyond the usual places, writing about my experiences and as a side project, pressing and documenting regional flora from around the world in a scrapbook.

If you have any questions, please get in touch! I'd be happy to message and video call.

Yes! I'd be very happy to teach English or Latin. As for myself, I'm desperate to finally learn some modern languages and will happily be taught any.

  • Quelles sont vos compétences ?

I'm a Classics student which means I'll happily talk with you at length about the beauty of Virgil and Lucretius' verse and my (sometimes dubious) attempts at recreating Roman cuisine with Apicius' De Re Coquinaria.

On a more practical side I can help out with:

    - Gardening
I inherited a love of gardening from my grandad and now volunteer with St John's College gardening team during university term times. I mix soil, prick out, repot, weed, water, dead-head, clear leaves. I find working with my hands a therapeutic outlet and will quite happily spend hours outside, regardless of weather, amongst nature.

    - Home renovation
I find anything creative fun and home renovation sounds exciting, especially if the building has some history to it. I love the idea of restoring old places of beauty, navigating the balance between respecting its history and making the place functional and efficient for the modern day. It's not quite on the same scale but I have helped out with renovations at home - wallpaper, building furniture, painting. I may not have the most experience but I'm a quick learner and can follow instruction.

    - Menial tasks
I like to help out wherever I can, including those small, random odd jobs.

    - Housekeeping and cleaning
My mother likes to say that I inherited a cleaning obsession from my grandma.

    - Language exchange
I'd very happily teach and learn new languages. I'm a native English speaker, have a good grasp of Latin and a beginner in Ancient Greek. I would really love to add any modern languages to my repertoire. I really need to if I want to properly get to know a place. It's a given that language brings people together, allows fruitful and interesting discussion, and allows you to integrate better.

    - Childcare
I have some younger cousins who I love to look after and absolutely dote upon. I've always enjoyed playing with children and have even been known to let myself become a human climbing frame on occasion...

    - Cooking and baking
I have a fairly decent cooking ability and enjoy baking when I come home. My green bean dish has been described as 'heinously good'. I'd like to become a more sustainable cook and learn how to make the most of seasonal and local produce.

  • Autres infos...

On rainy days I enjoy reading, draw, listen to music and sing. When the weather's nice I like to get out and love to hike and swim.

I would like to get into more sports even if I'm not the most natural athlete.
