Hello there :)

I'm just a girl looking for an adventure.

Born in Shanghai, raised in Singapore and Vancouver - I'm lucky to have been exposed to travel from a young age, and hope to explore more of the world. So far I have travelled to parts of Southeast-Asia (Malaysia, Indonesia), Europe (France, UK, Netherlands, Germany, Czech Republic, Italy, Spain) and road-tripped in the US (Washington and Oregon state), and while I thoroughly enjoyed the experiences, I'm looking for something a bit more off the beaten path - to really delve into the local culture, meet people, share stories, create something meaningful - and that's where Workaway comes in.

My background is in Environmental Science and Psychology. I just returned home from teaching English in Japan for 8 months, and it was one of the most rewarding decisions of my life. While the work was challenging at times, it helped me to learn a lot about myself and even overcome (to a great extent) my fear of public speaking, and I will never forget all the good times I shared with my adorable, amazing students. I've also worked in customer service, childcare, administrative work, as well as 2 years at an Environmental startup company, where I learned to work with my hands, be covered in dirt and grime (really!), and made some of my best lifelong friends.

Some of my interests include: foreign languages (I'm teaching myself Italian and Japanese), writing, music, art, reading,... Quiet spaces close to nature - trails in the forest or the beach - cobbled streets, quaint museums, old buildings full of history and culture. I love to explore and contemplate. Fitness and working out is another passion of mine. I consider myself quite fit and strong, and I engage in meditation and yoga regularly. I enjoy healthy eating and can cook some simple fare (mostly Chinese), and I would love to learn recipes from around the world.

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

Hands-on skills:
I worked for 2 years at a startup, building machine parts, fixing, maintenance, use of many kinds of hand tools, odd jobs (painting, cleaning, etc.)

Teaching & childcare:
I taught English in Japan to children ages 2-17, also have some experience at preschool daycare. I love playing with kids and teaching them songs and games. I am very patient and always have a smile on my face, and kids warm up to me easily.

Housekeeping:
Cleaning, sweeping, moping, vacuuming, washing, simple cooking, etc.
I did a lot of housekeeping for my last two jobs in the classrooms, factory, and office space.

Customer service:
I worked as customer service agent for a restaurant chain and a lab when I was in school. Also worked as telephone agent for survey company and city volunteer for local residents.

Miscellaneous:
-Fluent in English and Mandarin Chinese, basic Japanese, Italian, and French
-Good English writing and grammar
-Good computer skills (Internet, Microsoft Excel, Word, social media and apps etc.)
-First Aid Level 1 Certificate
-Amateur piano player

Personality:
Easygoing, hardworking, conscientious, attention to detail, slightly perfectionist, soft-spoken and self-critical. I'm working on becoming a better communicator.
