Hi there! I am Titia, a 25-year-old Dutch girl living in Utrecht. A few weeks ago, I completed my Masters degree in political science at the University of Amsterdam. After six years of studying, I feel like it's time to explore life outside of studying: exchanging my work behind a desk for an experience outside, in which I can develop new skills and meet new people from different places and backgrounds. I have (some) knowledge of English, French and Italian, which I would love to improve on during my Workaway experience!

I am a very energetic, positive person who likes to work hard and enjoys learning new things. My work experience in the hospitality industry has taught me precision, flexibility and the importance of team effort! Work is most inspiring when done together, and a good conversation after a long day of work is something I enjoy very much. Outside of work, I like to spend my free time cooking for friends and family, trying new recipes from different cuisines (hopefully, my Workaway experiences include some of this too!). Whenever I am not in the kitchen, I enjoy reading, gardening with my mom, swimming, cycling to the beach and starting new creative projects.

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

I started working outside of school from the age of 16, which allowed me to develop a variety of skills. Having worked in both restaurants, bars and a hotel, I have gained most experience in the hospitality industry. During this time, my main tasks included taking orders, preparing drinks, learning how to prioritise different tasks during busy hours and using clear communication with my colleagues . Most of all, I made sure that each guest had a pleasant time during their stay.

During my gap year, I started working as a secretary for the hospital in Leiden to save up some money for traveling. Here, I worked for the department of radiotherapy. I was responsible for the contact with both the patients and doctors, the scheduling of patients' appointments/scans, handling their confidential information and keeping in contact with other affiliated hospitals in the region. Supporting patients who were going through challenging times was a deeply valuable experience for me. It taught me how important it is to be compassionate, a good listener and to simultaneously stay organised.

Currently, I am working for a company that facilitates a variety of exams for both students in schools as well as for working professionals. Every work day is different, as I support people from all age groups and backgrounds. This requires me to multitask, keep a cool head when things get busy and make sure that the exams all run smoothly for the candidates.

On top of my work experience, I am also happy to help out with daily tasks or projects around the house. I know how to keep a place clean and tidy, and I am always down to lend a helping hand in the kitchen! I also have some experience with basic gardening, such as weeding, raking, strimming, and planting, and know a little bit about growing and harvesting vegetables. However, I am open to improve these skills and learn more about gardening through Workaway. I have a drivers' license, so I am happy to drive if needed.
