Hi! I'm Sofia, or Sofi (:

I've always been drawn to places and people that are a little outside of my everyday life. I love traveling, but I'm much more interested in meeting people, learning how they live and create, getting involved in something, and seeing where the experience takes me.

At this point in my life, I'm looking for experiences where I can actually be part of something for a while. I'd love to contribute whatever I can, learn from you, and experience a different way of living. It's my little escape after a difficult year (burnout & physical injuries). I'm very interested in learning skills that are completely new to me, especially anything involving art, sound/lighting design, (natural) building, permaculture, food, or hospitality/community.

I'm happiest somewhere with nature nearby, good music, good food, and curious people. I love hiking, rock climbing, photography, architecture, playing with art, and wandering around. I also love a night out dancing, live music, and finding the underground communities and scenes that make a place feel unique.

I'm easygoing, curious, and a fast learner. I love to laugh and make others laugh. I'm excited to meet you, learn something new, be useful, and hopefully leave with a few good stories along the way!

My previous Workaway experience:
1. Off-grid permaculture farm: worked with the land and the animals, built various structures, prepared meals.
2. Hostel, Spain: Organized tapas tour with other volunteer, cleaning, engaged with guests, other odd jobs, painting
3. Hostel: Chiloé Island, Chile. Worked in reception, translation (spanish/english), and cleaning, promoting tours, occasional handy jobs
4. Hostel: San Pedro de Atacama, Chile. Helped with organizing activities, cooking, translating, and cleaning.
5. Translator at cooking school: Antigua, Guatemala. Translated English/Spanish, customer service, cleaning, marketing and design
6. Not Workaway, but I work with a soundsystem company in NYC and love learning about sound and design!

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

When it comes to skills, I'd love to learn as many as possible. Everything that I am taught, I will be grateful to learn and put into practice. Here is a little background about my skills and experience and what I can help out with -

Reception & sustainable hospitality, selling & promoting tours, curating events, cooking, helping in the household (such as organization, cleaning dishes, chores), gardening (still learning), taking care of animals (dogs, cats, chickens, ducks, goats), taking care of kids (babysitter for 7 years), DIY art projects, driving, computer literacy, painting, basic construction, photography, graphic design.

I'd love to learn more about permaculture, eco-construction and sustainable practices, sound/light design, art projects, cultural foods, gardening, building/DIY projects, language, holistic health, plant medicine, taking care of different animals, or anything else you have in store for me. And I am not afraid of getting muddy or dirty (:

I'm currently also trying to perfect my photography and get into photojournalism. I'd love to offer my photography skills to your space, and you can use them as you please!
