Hello!
My name is Scarlett and travelling/volunteering has been a passion of mine for the past 10 years. Alongside a career in early years education, I've spent as much time as possible exploring new places. I've volunteered on farms, taught English, worked in kindergartens, helped out with kid's workshops at festivals, worked in event cafes, set up (and fixed) rental tents for customers, cooked for groups, helped lug about gear for events... I'm a pretty adaptable gal with a strong work ethic.
Over the years my interest has grown in alternative living; I'm keen to learn more skills for off grid life, from growing veggies to setting up solar power systems. Being in nature feels like a much needed balm for modern life, and after a difficult few years of working very hard in the UK I'd love to spend some time slowing down and being surrounded by greenery. I'm starting an MSc in Speech and Language Therapy in Jan 2025, so hoping I can immerse myself in a few lovely places in the meantime and find some nice people to connect with.
My personal skillset is of course early childhood education (here's a paper of mine that was published a few years back https://www.tactyc.org.uk/reflections/#). I can wax lyrical about philosophy all day!
Practically my experience working in education has allowed me to nurture the skills of patience, flexibility, perseverance, care, thinking on the spot and multitasking like a fiend.
I'm also an avid creator and love to paint , draw and craft when I get the chance. I'm currently into lino printing, crochet, sewing and needle felting!
I like to tinker on a variety of instruments, particularly piano, ukulele and the old voicebox.
I'm willing to try most kinds of work and able to follow instructions and get cracking independently. I'd particularly like to spend some time doing garden work, I have some basic understanding and have grown some herbs and veggies, but would love to learn more about it. :)
