Description

My name is Rosalie and I really enjoy the combination of working on a laptop, and working with my hands. I co-started a business in 2022 where we help social scientists learn how to develop real world solutions for complicated human problems. We also collaborate with artists, architects, social scientists, future dreamers, and citizens throughout Europe in inspiring and building projects that bring more community, care and future optimism in our European societies (mostly with EU funding). In my free time, I love building things and cooking.

In January and February of 2024, I spent 6 weeks in Workaway in Portugal and had a great time with both hosts. I learned new skills in a house reconstruction in the Algarve (mostly working with cement, finishing walls, helping reconstruct a roof) and in a yurt eco-project in Arrabida national park where I learned to care for vineyards, cleaned and repaired some things and took care of pets and the land. I really enjoyed the experience and that is why I'd like to go Workaway again this winter, while my business goes in wintersleep and I wont have more than a few hours of remote work each day that are very flexible to plan (answering emails, every now and then a zoom meeting with a colleague). Excited to see what I could help build and improve this time!

I am from the Netherlands and have lived and worked in a few countries in Europe, including with entertaining children in a holiday park, and 10 years in restaurants, hotels & cafes next to school & studies. I have volunteered among other things with elderly people in my neighborhood, vulnerable youths, and cleaning up the harbour and fixing up boats in a Swedish city I used to live.

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

I really enjoy DIY. I have built almost all the furniture in my own apartment at this point (little tables, a closet, a standing desk) from wood I found on marketplaces or in the street. For the last few years, in summer I have volunteered at a circular zero waste festival in the Netherlands in a nature reserve, building stages, ramps, placing and fixing fences, etc. in ways that don't harm nature. I really enjoy painting walls, sanding, cleaning with pressure hoses, etc.

A number of years ago I spent a season on a house boat in Sweden, doing a lot of upkeep and maintenance, such as removing mold, rebuilding the sewage system, and finding many creative solutions for the electricity. Around that time I also helped strip another boat in the area, isolate a third boat, and I did a lot of cleaning trash from the river. I also helped build a wood cabin. After I moved back to the Netherlands, the opportunities for bigger building projects disappeared a little from my life, and I would love to seek them out through Workaway. I always want to learn more.

Cooking is one of my hobbies and I am able to do it vegan, gluten free, etc. In the past I lived in housing with vegans and a person with celiac disease. I became a vegetarian before I became an adult so I know nothing about cooking meat, but have no problem with it being prepared or eaten near me.

I love conversations about anthropology (that's my background) philosophy, sociology, psychology, and sci-fi and thinking about the future. I am in a network of people who think about regeneration in the Netherlands and am learning a lot there. I play a little guitar and sing a song every now and then. Really enjoy board games and puzzles.
I am not entirely neurotypical and have trouble sometimes making small talk. Clear communication about expectations and needs is my preference at all times, I am not the best at picking up subtle hints.

Open to all genders, ethnicities, religions, political affiliations, etc. I only find it hard to understand when people express points of view that seem to not come from a place of empathy for all other humans and beings. But I practice being understanding, calm and loving to everyone.
