Hello everyone!

We would like to introduce ourselves. We are Erik (31) and Bende (32) from Hungary. Our friendship lasts about 18 years ago and this year we planned to try the workaway lifestyle.

About Erik:

I used to work as a policeman for more then 6 and a half years, mason and tiler assistant for 3 years, and currently I am an international truck driver about 2 and a half years. I have always been attracted to traveling and getting to know new things. I consider myself as an honest open-minded, easy learner good-humoured and helpful person. I am also interested in the cultures of other countries and foreign languages. I like being alone and meditate, but also having deep and spiritual conversations with people are not far from me either. I always complete the task that is entrusted to me and I also like to come up with good ideas. I think that during a workaway, I can help with everything, be it indoors or outdoor tasks. I really like nature and the animal world, so they are the closest to me in my ideology. My goal is to gain experience in both Western and Eastern countries during my life. It is important to mention that I really like my belly, so I like to cook and learn new recipes and practices in the kitchen.

I can communicate fluently in English, almost at a native level but practice makes us better so using it would be great for my skills. I can express myself in German even at a basic level. In my spare time I like to read, hike, play board games and my current job is a proof of that I also in love with driving so if you need a reliable good driver, I am your man.

About Bende:

Hello, I'm Bende, 32 years old.
I was an elite athlete and a member of the Hungarian National Wrestling team until I was 26 years old. I graduated from a university majoring in International Business. Then fate took me to Switzerland where I lived for almost 6 years, during this time I worked as a wrestling coach and logistics assistant. There is where I fell in love with nature, went on many hikes in the mountains, rock climbing and snowboarding.
This kind of lifestyle has made me more open-minded that is the reason why I really want to try myself in many things and gain experience so I think workaway could be a perfect choice. I would like to meet other cultures and different kind of people from all over the world. Physical work is not a problem for me and I am a creative being so I can lend a helping hand in a lot of things. I would describe myself as a real Allrounder.

I speak German fluently thanks to my spent years in Switzerland, I would put my English language skills at an intermediate level. I am excited to meet new people, new communities and everything that can helps in my social and cultural skills.

Both of us are looking forward to teach and learn languages and earn new skills for example in DIY, gardening, plant production and animal welfare, artisanship. We are good company if it is BBQ with some beers/wine or just a chit-chat under the stars at night. We can show you the real hungarian spirit. :)

Happiness comes from simple things in life: relationships, beauty of nature, little kindnesses. In Hungary we have a dictum for people who cannot find happiness in their life: Nem látja a fától az erdőt. - Can't see the forest for the trees.

About Erik:
I used to work with my dad for 3 years as a tiler/mason so I got skills from that job, I was his helping hand. Nowadays I am a truck driver, I am in love with driving so if you need a ride I can solve that. My grandmother is self-sustaining so I have learnt a lot from her about plants and domestic animals. In the future I would like to teach English around the world so practicing my skills and learning more about the language would be awesome.

About Bende:
Physical work is not a problem for me because I have trained my body for a long time I can lend a helping hand in a lot of things. I think I am a real Allrounder. In the past I used to work at a dairy-farm so I have experience around the farm. Teaching German would be great because I would really like to share my knowledge that I have learnt in Switzerland.

So where should I start?.. The description will be written by me, Erik, but I'm sure that Bende feels and thinks the same way about the things I list here and share with everyone.

Thanks to the guys, we had the opportunity to enjoy what is almost everyday for them from September 10 to October 5. Freedom, nature, the joy of life, the importance of… read more family and friendship, the ennobling effect of work, delicious foods, beautiful beaches, the importance of free and open thinking and the good things that can be gleaned from their stories.

And I would start with one of the funniest, craziest, most interesting things in their lives, none other than Liam "angelic little devil" Tanu. This little guy became our brother during our stay. He taught us a lot about life, caused a lot of funny moments, a lot of heartwarming cuteness (usually it lasted 5 minutes after waking up :D) If anyone wants to learn how to be aware of your surroundings, this kid will be your mentor. His intelligence is impressive, his health and happiness admirable. A real alive, indestructible energy bomb that radiates the purity of all human qualities. We love you Liam! Sorry Merle and Claudio you will be the last in my review. :P

Let me also talk a little about accommodation, food and work. According to the plans, we would have spent our time in a 6-person tent, but our friend, who is called Maestrale, arrived with us. We set up the tent, but the wind didn't like it and decided that it would be better for us to move into their comfortable RV. So we enjoyed 4 days of incredible night experiences provided by the tent (as if you tried to sleep in a nylon bag :D) But I think we made a good deal with the wind. Our days were spent with the balanced calm of the Italians, delicious breakfasts, lunches and dinners that we made either for ourselves or together. I have never eaten so many vegetables and fruits in my life, so I am grateful to them for teaching me to eat healthy TOO! :D

During our stay, Claudio and we worked a lot on the yurt, which we almost reached the end of, we tidied up and sanded/treated the terrace, the compost toilet, the old garden, the fencing of the horses in the yard and many other things around the property, so I think we were able to do our part in a lot of things. Despite the list, it was not tiring at all, we were never pressured and it was very pleasant. As well as the fact that we could use their car to get around the area at any time, helping us to discover as much of the island's beauty as possible.

We were able to meet their friends (I'm not sure if I'm writing their names right, but I send my regards to Kiko, Sergio and Nico), with whom we had such direct conversations as if we had known them for 1000 years. We took part in super parties organized by their friends in the mountains, creating a very good atmosphere and what was my favorite... the WINE :D We were also lucky to meet Merle's extremely nice, intelligent, friendly parents, with whom we were able to interact as if we were part of their family. And the same can be said about Claudio's energetic, life enjoying and super-cooking mom. We had beautiful meals thanks for her! I know I write a lot about food, but you know this is one of the things that I love in life. :)

And then I'll also write a few words about those who welcomed us :D After Merle said on the first day that we can feel ourselves at home as if we were living there, she immediately stole herself into my heart. This kindness is pretty much lacking in humanity. She is a funny, kind and intelligent woman who has a good humor too. Thanks to her, I was able to talk a lot in English about everything, so she is a perfect conversational partner. I advise you to ask her where she went and what she experienced and you will have a good conversation. Speaking for Bende, she also speaks German quite well, as surprising as she is German. :D And to express my gratitude to you too, thank you for the delicious food.

Claudio.. my brother! I am very grateful that I got to know a man who has seen a lot, desirable, smart, strong, knowledgeable, kind, friendly, fair, life-affirming man. Our long evening conversations with him about all kinds of things in life in the company of fine wines are etched in my memory forever. The things he told me about, his first meet with Merle, his young years, his travels were all inspiring things for which I will be forever grateful to him. Unfortunately, our trip was ended, or I should say was put on hold, by bad luck when everything had stolen from the van on the beach. But here too, we received help from Claudio and Merle and their parents, they didn't let us down. Tuscany will be waiting for us, but I feel that they will also be waiting for us in the future. I can't say enough how grateful we are to you and how much we love you. Take care of yourselves! Lock the car! Sending kisses, bites, and hugs to Liam and to you.
