Description
Hi my name is Mollie and I am passionate about animals, community living, being in nature, pushing my limits and getting out of my comfort zone.
I am a fully qualified Spanish and German teacher.
I have just beaten stage four cancer so I’m feeling like the luckiest person alive right now. I am 25 years old and last year went to live in the Galapagos Islands to teach underprivileged kids English after ending a long term relationship realising there was more to life!
Whilst I was there I started to experience a few health symptoms but they were brushed off as anxiety. I return to the UK to get checked out and within a few hours of getting off the plane I collapsed and doctors found a melon size tumour engulfing my heart and lung which was stage four non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. If you want to hear a little more about this you can type my name in on Google as I was in most newspapers around the world it really is a crazy story. I was always planning on staying in the Galapagos islands and making a life out there but sadly it was not to be, so I am searching for my new purpose.
I’ve had a hell of a year after spending 130 days in hospital receiving the most intense chemotherapy known to man. During this time I wrote a book for young people like me going through cancer which is now distributed on young cancer wards which I am really proud of. I also regularly go into high schools to deliver a motivational speeches of how short life can be with my real life example of going from island hopping to deaths door in the space of 48 hours. I have completely revamped my life following my diagnosis and am now passionate about organic foods and meditation and am looking to learn more about this.
I am feeling pretty lost since cancer and am grieving my old self (the girl that ran away to the Galapagos Islands by herself!), but I know the only way is to look forward.
I have extensive experience working with young people and children obviously due to my teaching background. In the Galapagos, I was head pre school teacher. I have also volunteered in a cat rescue shelter for many years. I feel most myself around animals and almost pursued a career in animal welfare (I am still considering now!). I also worked in a hotel and café growing up. I can also of course offer Spanish, German or English lessons. I am super adaptable and love a challenge most of all!
My school breaks up for the holidays 19th July and I am looking for a workaway ideally for a month during the summer holidays. Flexible with dates!
