Hi! My name is Madeleine, I'm from the UK and I want to discover different cultures! I've finished school in 2022 and I have been travelling through workaway on and off since then, exploring Europe. I'm now doing my longest trip yet and have been travelling since June 2023.

I'm very interested in learning languages, i speak a little Spanish and would love to improve.

I am patient and love to meet new people and share stories and skills. I like to keep busy and especially enjoy working with others. I am hardworking and curious to learn new things. My main goal while travelling is to challenge myself and step outside my comfort zone!!

In the summer of 2022 and 2023, I have have volunteered as a camp councilor in a Romanian summer camp where I planned and engaged school aged children in English themed games and lessons. Also acted as a leader and role model with 30 other international volunteers so have learnt strong communication and flexibility skills through this. In October 2022 i was also an Au Pair in a family in Madrid, Spain while also attending Spanish classes.
I have volunteered in hostels in Budapest, Bratislava, Split and Sofia and Skopje where cleaning, welcoming guests, reception work, night shifts, organising drinking games was expected as well as leading daily activities.
Back in the UK, I worked as a bartender and waitress so am confident in hospitality and working behind a bar,

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

I have a lot of patience and enjoy working with children and young people; I have previously volunteered for a charity working with children with special needs. I also went on a project in 2021 called NCS where me and other young people did team building activities and games and thoroughly enjoyed it and would like to help on the other side of that with planning activities. Here I also gained experience with organising a charity event (bake sale and fun day).

When I was younger I was apart of my local Scouts troop so have hiked, camped and cooked in the open air before. I regularly go on walks and cycle in my local area which luckily has many tracks.

In addition, I’ve previously had part time jobs in hospitality so I am comfortable working as a team as well as being able to listen to concerns and make people feel welcome. Here I also have experience with cleaning thoroughly. Similarly, during my volunteer in a hostel my responsibilities here included cleaning different areas (bathrooms, kitchen, common areas) as well as checking people in and out and making people feel welcome and encouraging them to engage with other guests.

I have some crafting skills too! I have a handmade jewellery business and regularly make necklaces, phone charms and keychains. I also learnt how to crochet over lockdown and have done a few projects making crochet animals, hats and clothes and I can also sew. I enjoy really film photography too although I'm definitely not a professional, it's more of a hobby but documenting my travels through film photography is so much fun.
