Description

Hi we are Mathieu and Amber. We have both recently quit our corporate jobs in London in search of a bigger adventure. We plan on travelling overland from Patagonia to Mexico. While we are travelling through many places we want to Workaway to get a deeper understanding of a place rather than just passing through. We hope to share this journey with you!

Amber was working in food supply chain as a Product Manager and Mathieu was working in Business Development for a tech company.
Throughout our stint in corporate London we tried to get away as much as possible for example learning to surf in France, visiting Amber’s family on a small Greek island and Mathieu’s sister in Chamonix, France.

We have both volunteered/workawayed before: Mathieu was a volcano guide in Nicaragua back in 2018 while Amber worked in the Ecuadorean Amazon at Merazonia to rehabilitate animals rescued from captivity back into the wild. Amber has also recently volunteered for a charity Lafiya which is expanding access to contraception.

We are keen to experience and learn new cultures given our own multi cultural backgrounds. We have families from all over the world. Mathieu can speak french due to his mums heritage, while Amber has parents from Greece and South Africa. She also lived in Seville, Spain for 3 months and learnt basic Spanish there.We love spending time outdoors and want to learn as much as possible about other ways of living, picking up new skills as we go and sharing our knowledge.

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

Mathieu is a very good cook and has been known to make his own fermented Chilli sauce. He also had a stint as a pizza chef a few years ago and now makes sourdough pizza for his friends.

Amber has worked with animals and children often, from babysitting, horse riding, volunteering and petsitting. She has a calm attitude that is reassuring in a tense moment.

Our corporate jobs have given us many skills, I’m not sure all are useful in this context like cold calling, but many are. Amber managed several projects, coordinating a team and dealing with all the logistical problems that arose, both with customers and other team members. She also learnt how to do web design and did a course on applying psychological principles to websites and environments to enhance the experience.

In Mathieu’s role he had to dig deep into and be empathetic to a customers needs. As such, he is a very good active listener and fast problem solver - objection handling on the spot. Mathieu is quickly able to build relationships and trust. He is great at breaking down and planning larger jobs into small tasks. He can work independently and with his own initiative.

Mathieu also has 2 years of experience tutoring children.

We both love a card game and have many to teach. Uno and Monopoly come as a part of this package.
